Never preferential shuffled on a shoe - just the tap.

Preferential shuffling can be a very good thing for a blackjack AP.

I've been at a table with one other player who decided to sit out a hand in a very negative count. I said, well if he's sitting out so am I. Sat there looking at the dealer. Dealer then got permission from pit to shuffle up.

This was a courteousy shuffle. Definitely not a preferential shuffle. Big difference.

Semantics! For me it was preferential, I preferred that they shuffle. They shuffled as a courtesy.

By definition, "preferential shuffling" applies to SD and DD games where the dealer seeing lots of small cards and few Aces dealt will shuffle the cards, irrespective of depth.

Half-shoe'ing in a shoe game is where a player is given the message that his 'action' is not wanted by destroying his winning potential.

This is prevalent in New Jersey, Missouri, and other states where the casino is forbidden from actually barring a player because he is capable of thinking.
