    Confused by Thorp !

Hi, i'm another newbie, have been reading Thorps Beat the Dealer recently and i am confused.
Regarding the Ten Count Thorp states that off the top the ratio of non-tens/tens is 36-16 or 2.25-1. After removal of 4 non-tens the ratio will now be 32-16 or 2-1 and at this point Thorp states that the player will enjoy approx 1% advantage. So far so good. However, what if the 4 non-tens that are out, happen to be Aces. With an EOR of -.61 each , the removal of the 4 Aces would further the house's advantage by over 2%. Am I missing something here? I would be grateful for any help.

Thanx moses. I've got Norms book too, its probably the best book on BJ out there, along with BJA3 of course. I Know Thorps Ten count gives perfect insurance but what about ev? Sorry about my example, I am aware 4 Aces out can't happen. Lets say 22 cards played out, 6 tens and 16 non-tens for example. The ratio is still 2-1 and Thorp gives a 1% advantage. What if 4 of the 16 non-tens where Aces and maybe even a few 8's aswell. According to point count theory the 8's should have no effect on betting ev. at all but the Aces -.61 each.

What if the casino in question burned four cards at the start of the game?

Alternatively, the player could get dealt AA v A and then surrender. Of course, the dealer would end up with an ace in the hole.

Another way that four aces could be dead is if the dealer forgot to burn, and dealt you A,A against A. As he is taking his hole card, he flashes it, another ace. You protest that there was no burn card, and the helpful pitboss offers to burn the hand.

Maybe 22 cards have been played, 6 tens and 16 others. Of the 16 others there are four Aces, four 9's, four 8's and four sevens removed. Ten Count would give 2-1 ratio, so 1% adv. Hi Lo gives -10 RC, definately not a 1% adv. This is why I'm confused.

Thorps Ten Count from 1962ed. of Beat the Dealer was presented as a viable betting and playing strategy. I seem to be dwelling on an extreme example of deck composition. All counting strategies are based on approximations, some more accurate than others. I suppose this is why the Ten Count is not that popular these days, except as an insurance side count.

Still waiting for the Tarzan count release. What's the delay? Maybe I was right after all?
