The circumstances vary for all of us. Myself, there's only a limited amount of time I can play because of other commitments (like work). That being the case, stopping a session removes the "sky is the limit" idea. True, it also removes the "losing it all back" possibility but being I'm playing at an advantage (with no heat) it's an easy decision to keep playing.
Isn't that what the math would suggest in such a circumstance?

Even the most tolerant stores will back you off if you are winning too much too often. I've learned that the hard way. Keep it short and spread your play around both shift to shift and store to store. I know this doesn't answer the question but with this in mind I think aiming for a goal and stopping when you hit it is a good way to accomplish the above objective when it comes to longevity. The "monetary win" goal I set is secondary to the "situational" goal I set.
Goal One - Play until I catch a shoe that allows me to get my max bet on the table a few times. Once I hit that goal, I walk away whether I have won or lost. Why? This is the number one "attention getter" for the pit and the eye.
Goal Two - I know what my "average win rate" is per session for the games I play - If I have played through several shoes without getting close to max bet but have had some slightly positive shoes that have allowed me to spread moderately and win, then I will generally leave the store at least for the remainder of the shift. Why? 2 reasons.........A. See explanation above - I don't want to set off too many alarms by being a "noticeable winner" and.......B. Psychological reasons - I hate winning a sizable amount only to give it back on the next shoe. I know it shouldn't matter because it's all just "one long session" but it still creates an internal strife that I don't enjoy, so I avoid it when possible. I know many will disagree but I feel it helps ME manage the emotional part of this racket.

If I mow em down early it makes me feel good to rest on my laurels. Not the "mathematically optimum" thing but hey we are all human, we need things to feel good about sometimes. Not to mention that piling on for an even bigger win will stand out even more with casino management.

i love this topic, even though it's probably irrelevant, lol. proper answer i guess, is long as you have an advantage, keep banging away at it, hit it hard, get those plays in, the more advantage plays you can get in the better, get that EV, while the getting is good. the more plays you get in, the more EV trumps SD. .......... so what you make that long drive home after a hard working trip with nothing but a pocket full of EV, where you two thirds of the way through the trip was up two or three times your EV only to get hit by SD and variance to the point where your pockets are empty but full of EV after the latter part of the trip, lol. gotta consider the long haul, recall your life time results and how they mimic the EV you've been chasing.
maybe on that long drive home one might dream up some scenarios to where one mighta coulda played things differently.
maybe you know a typical three day trip that your gonna get on average some number of advantage plays in, and you know the EV for that given number of plays and the standard deviations as well. and too, maybe you know that you could tinker with going after those plays at either a lower or higher advantage depending on how you attack the play, such that the potential cost of the play is higher or lower and the reward perhaps not so much higher or lower. say you're at that two thirds through the trip with a realization of tripling your EV, maybe you could become more conservative and make your plays at a higher advantage with a lower cost potential, sorta thing, too where the potential to lose a big chunk of your lucky realization above your EV is not so great over that later third of your trip.
maybe not really the 'right' way to play it, but some how knowing and even making it happen to where you make that drive home with not only EV in your pocket but a pocket full of loot makes for a pleasant trip home. whatever, if your bankroll is strong enough and your games offer enough leeway, there is the potential to game the EV and SD a bit.
just let us not forget, probably there is gonna be another trip too where we'll be faced again with the one big long game that it is.
