You go away for a few days...

...and all you curmudgeonly old farts are bickering like a gaggle of crones. Not a decent thread in sight! In hopes of turning your considerable experience to something more interesting and valuable, I pose this to you:

I just finished Ian Anderson’s “Burning the Tables”. He, Max Rubin and R.W. Munchkin all discuss and commend the value of playing rated for comps at different levels. Those are all legitimate players with serious credibility. This board can be very hostile to the idea. So:

Be it resolved that playing rated for comps is a legitimate pursuit for a card counter.

In order to stretch your thinking, I’d like you to take the opposite side of the argument to which you would normally default.

In a few days we can set up a poll and see which side won!

    I will continue to repeat.

THE EV EARNED FROM COMPS WILL NEVER OFFSET THE LOST EV FROM BEING UNABLE TO PLAY.

Give credence to the fact that a back off, flyer, OSN will get you trouble in multiple places ESPECIALLY if they have your ID. There are over 1,000 entries in OSN some the waters fine come on in. If you are, or intend to be, a serious AP then you are making a huge mistake.

However, if you are a amateur player content on break even or just want to beat them with comps then tailor your game appropriately and go get em. I would say especially at low limits but low limits get negligible comps, so if you want to do this at a worthwhile level get ready to bet big. Actually, video poker and craps may be better plays toward comps.

Max works for a casino (Duh!) and I find it hard to believe Richard would never tell you anything different than my comments.
Luck is nothing more than probability taken personally!

About Blackjack: The Forum

BJTF is an advantage player site based on the principles of comity. That is, civil and considerate behavior for the mutual benefit of all involved. The goal of advantage play is the legal extraction of funds from gaming establishments by gaining a mathematic advantage and developing the skills required to use that advantage. To maximize our success, it is important to understand that we are all on the same side. Personal conflicts simply get in the way of our goals.
