I would consider myself very capable of "spotting a counter" as has been professed here by others. I would then ask how do you know he/she is not a counter?

You see, it is the actual counter that you cannot readily identify that we all strive to be, but few achieve.

By understanding dealers, pit bosses and surveillance you can begin to implement techniques to become less "identifiable as a counter". These concepts must be coupled with a technical understanding of the game (all that math shit) and its dimensions or the cost of such will become prohibitive.

You will find few categorical truths in your search for these answers and you must come to realize that your judgement, while in the circumstances, is the ultimate control over which techniques (but learn the techniques) you use. Blackjack operates in a world of probability with few absolutes, and no matter how hard we try, we can only predict trends, predicting events is a fools errand.

All of the books have varying list of techniques to use but I have never seem a composite list.

We might consider using this thread to identify all these but then we would have created a very valuable manifesto for casino management to our detriment.

I suggest you PM them to me, then I will assemble the list into a document that I will make available to all that request it.

Other thoughts and suggestions are welcome.
