Sorry ahead of time for this weird post RE: Tropicana AC

I was in AC about 4 months ago and this thing that happened in the men's washroom has been stuck in my mind for quite a while now. Now I have been to a LOT of casinos in the US and Canada and indeed the rest of the world and previous to this I had never run into an "attendant" in the washroom that you know, hands you a paper towel and has the bottle of perfume there and who knows what else and expects a tip from you at the end of all that for these very important services that he provides you. Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I am quite capable of doing the washroom thing without the help of some black guy (he just happened to be black) helping me out. I was surprised to see this guy set up there and he was not there a few hours later.
Anyway, I fished around for some coins and I think I threw a quarter and perhaps 3 nickels into his bowl. As I am walking out he runs up to me to catch me as I am just leaving and says... "would you like change for that or can I get you some change for that". I guess he thought that was pretty funny and that he needed to send me a message. I just continued walking out. About 30 seconds later I really felt like going back there and punching him in the nose and/or complaining to someone about this guy. I did neither.
Now, at the tables it is like water off of a ducks back to me when I get abuse or criticism from other ploppies, its part of the game; but for reasons I don't fully understand this particular incident really bother me. Maybe it is no more complicated than the guy just hurt my feelings.

he was calling you a cheap asshole. You should have rescinded your paltry gratuity from the condescending prick. He neither held your dick, nor gave it a shake.

The following link is directly on point.

You know this is a blackjack forum, right?
What the guy did was actually funny, so he did have a sense of humor and was able to adapt quickly to the social stress of the situation, could you do the same and stop being hurt?
I understand that he "just happened to be black" but why did you find that relevant enough to mention it?

perhaps I should be giving him a few marks for "being able to adapt quickly to the social stress of the situation" ... hahahah But even if he as an albino Chinese midget with only one arm I would have felt the same way....

What the attendant did was not funny - compares to a toke hustling dealer. Do agree that being black is not relavent, and actually the comment could be construed by many as insulting.

Many AC casinos restrooms have such attendants since 1990 if I remember right. I have never given them any tip and they haven't talked to me. Giving him a quarter is an insult. Better not give them a tip if you cannot afford one dollar bill.

Common in AC and some other places that are more "night clubby." And yea, same as a taxi driver or doorman or anything else, a tip of some random change is insulting. $2 is probably the norm

Excellent post Banker. Shoot, if that's the worst thing that ever happened to you in a casino, then consider yourself lucky.

I admit tipping attendants is not my strong suit. I mean where does it stop? Think what the restroom would look like without them. We probably would've had a good laugh. I would've given him another buck and said "look, if you think Im going to give you a dollar everytime I have to take a whiz, I might go broke." Perhaps go into forum theories regarding EV and he will run everytime he sees me coming.

I'm not paying $2 every time I pee.

And besides, he's forcing me to get my hands dirty handling filthy money right after I just washed them.

Yes, some of the swankier casinos have toilet attendants.
Yes, they deserve a buck or two IF they are doing a good job.
I tip for (non-minimal) service rendered. My A.P. friends have
all seen me in casinos with both $2 bills and Eisenhower Dollars
and tipping for water. Some get the former and some get the latter.

Never mind he is handing you a paper towel, and you have no idea if he washed his hands after wiping his ass.
