This week's newsletter highlights the casino "hold" for BJ, etc.
You'll find interesting I imagine. At least I do.

I disagree with Three on this issue. The "hold" is meaningful.
That is why they always want to "color you up" and track the
chips purchased, and chips gone from the dealer's bank.
Of course, the "hold" does measure the degree of gambling
pathology that the particular game attracts, as degenerates
will keep playing games with reasonably low "House Edges."
but stay frozen in their seats playing until their money is gone.
Three addressed this issue, mentioning the "percentage of the
time players left with any money."
NV_table_game_hold.pdf
is the most interesting downloadable document.
Has the dominance of H17 shoe games with 6:5
BJ's changed the casino "hold" for blackjack?
How many BJ and Poker tables are there in Nevada,
year by year? Look and see. Enjoy.

From the looks of it, not that much?
I want to see total revenue over hold to see what changes in action have been occurring. If there is a drop in rev/hold, and there is a strong correlation between change in rules for the worse with respect to rev/hold, then one can suggest that such changes may have a negative impact on 21 games.
There are other factors we need to consider as well: Age of gamblers (they are getting younger) is one of them. Younger punters have less capital to 'invest' into casinos. The current generation (Gen Y) has the least amount of capital to gamble compared to other generations (Gen W/X). Another factor is the rapid adoption and decriminalization of gambling across the union. With casinos spreading far and wide, there is less traffic to Vegas relative to the total US pop than say...back in the 60's. Then there are subtle changes to 21 games concerning some rules like extra decks, nDAS, nRSA, removal of surrender options, fewer splitting hands, etc.
While hold is a great indicator of 'cash in/cash out', we cannot draw a conclusion until many more data points are drawn. If we are looking only at the nose of the Mona Lisa, without us knowing it is Her, could we say that we are viewing a Monet? Stupid question, but it is the same. Our scope is limited, we need data to draw a more accurate and truthful conclusion.
The above does not argue that 6:5 is fine and should be tolerated. Just FYI!
