    Bootlegger and MathProf

Hello from the Blackjack Review Network.

I have just added entries for Bootlegger and MathProf to the Encyclopedia of Casino Twenty-One. Actually, they are just "stubs" which need additional information. I believe these two blackjack experts and pioneers are deserving of an entry in the book but I have very little information on them.

I understand that Bootlegger died around 2011(?) and MathProf died in 2012(?). Any and all information would be helpful to complete these listings. If you know either of them personally and would like to contribute some personal facts or a bio that would be wonderful. The current listings for them are at:

    Bootlegger: https://www.blackjackreview.com/wp/encyclopedia/b/#Bootlegger
    MathProf: https://www.blackjackreview.com/wp/encyclopedia/m/#MathProf

You can reply to this post, email me directly at [email protected] or leave a message on site at https://www.blackjackreview.com/wp/contact/ .

    Thank you,
    Michael Dalton

Michael Dalton, all I can say about the late legends Math Prof, and Bootlegger is that they were both extremely intelligent gentleman. Who were both very generous in sharing their vast wealth of knowledge on the game of blackjack with many others including myself for years. They will always be missed, and remembered by the blackjack community.

I think it was stated in an old post that the late Math Professor left all of his life savings to charity.

I don't think that is entirely correct. I believe Mathprof left everything he ever won playing blackjack to charity. If I remember correctly it was around $112,000. There was a post on BJ21 of his plans to do this.

Actually, though I may be wrong, I thought it was his Blackjack winnings. He did have a wife to think about.

I should have read the thread, didn't note his response. Think there was an old old post he made nducating lifetime at about 280 k. He would have accounted for tax and other expenses, likely leaving the balance you indicated.

Correct he left about 280k (all his BJ winning) to a foundation to provide education scholarships for minority youths in Detroit.

For an old country hick like me, Bootlegger took me by the hand for my first trip ever to Las Vegas. He drove me to the green chip pizza party and to the main green chip dinner. I would have been lost without him.

I still remember us meeting for the first time at the MGM Grand by the statue of the big lion. He was dressed in some wild Hawaiian outfit.

Below is post MathProf made along time ago on BJ21 stating how much he made. I can't find the post where he said he was giving a $112,000 to charity.

#14 You Will Get Burned Out

The subject line above was the title of one of the slides that I gave in Vegas last month. I gave a number of reflections from my years of play, and this was #14 of 15. Here is what was on the slide:

If you are playing Black Chip levels,
It is an Addictive Life Style But ?

    Get tried of

    All the Travelling/Rejections/Fluctuations

Get Tired of all the Hassles with Aliases.

Tired of (Worrying About) Room Ejections Tired of Cage Heat.

Summer 2011 was one of my Happiest Times

Because I was not working !

In the outside world, young people usually accept entry level positions. These do not pay great, but they are looking at the opportunity for advancement. If you go into some other kind of business for yourself, you have to struggle for your first years, but you hope to build up equity. A business reputation, good will, a customer base, etc. In blackjack, you build negative equity. Places where you have been rejected, and where it is harder and harder to get in hours.

A a part time player, I made a little over quarter a million dollars. But I made all of it in 6 years: between 1/1/2002 until about 12/25/2007. The sum of the play in the other years was negative.

A better player than I was, and one who was willing to subject themselves to a lot more abuse than I was, could probably make 1 Million dollars. But it will involve LOTS of travel. Note this is 1 Million with no benefits; in fact, there are negative benefits in that you have to pick up the Employer share of Social Security and Medicare.

How about adding DD' to your book. He was (is) one of the great blackjack players who posted on BJ21. I learned more from him than anybody. Here is a Sonnet by MathProf praising DD'.
