It makes your bet look somewhat suspicious, but it is not as
egregious as betting $95 to avoid hearing "cheques play."
Only card counters use a bet ramp or spread with amounts
    that are not rounded.
I can almost hear a Pit Boss chuckling to himself, as he calls
surveillance saying "seat #3 just bet over 15 units." (in green)

I have a question about back counting, seem always unsucessful to me when i back count start middle of the shoe. Could you please help me? Let say $25 table 6d s17 game, a shoe which has been dealt two decks unseen card, cards on table is +8, i normally jump in with two hands of $25?and simply treat it as tc +1 and play the rest of decks, am i doing right? Is everything same as regular shoe except there is disadvantage of 2 more decks penetration for the shoe?

    +1 ZMF

Betting weird amounts to avoid "checks play" or calls to surveillance looks really suspicious. It's better to bet a normal looking amount. I like to find dealers who forget to call it or whisper "checks play."

On a similar vein, I found a fast dealer, but shortly there after find he loudly yelled "checks play" because I bet 100$ or more and wouldn't shush for a toke. At this casino he must call it on every bet change over 100$, so I started betting 100$, 125$, 100$, 150$ until the pit boss told him to shut the hell up. hahaha. I am so mean sometimes. He shut up though :3.

If you begin back counting when two decks have been played, imagine they are behind the cut card. When there's three decks in the discard tray, you've only counted one deck at this point, so your TC calculations will be as if only one deck had been dealt, not three. You may do better to back count shoes that are closer to being shuffled so as not to give yourself bad pen.

Please examine chapter 10 in Don's book. Don't skip the beginning of the chapter for further intro explanation. As a matter of fact it is the best chapter I have ever seen in print on the subject of blackjack.

Never thought my original posting would lead to 35 pages...all I was doing was sharing a decision I made in under 5 seconds and wondering if it made sense.

Good one Moses. Why don't you try your one deck system on a six deck shoe where you will actually be able to put a green chip in the circle now and then. Sorry for my rudeness, which is reactionary to you always having fun with the system I use.

Professor, no one is claiming to be an expert here, that is why people belong to a heavily followed open board, hopefully to exchange ideas. I am glad I post here as it has become a breath of fresh air for me. The previous board that I belonged to was rather slow in traffic. Subsequently, and unfortunately the board also has a politics page where I participated too much, which was a big mistake on my part, as it was periodically brutal.
