Can the dealer ever hit on soft 18?

Hello there and sorry for the newbie question,

I understand the S17/H17 variation, but my question isn't about it, it's about higher soft values.

Let's say my hand is 19, the dealer has soft 18 and he loses. Why can't he count the Ace as 1 and continue drawing? Isn't this how the Ace works the best in this case?

    Quoting from Wikipedia:
"A player and the dealer can count an ace as 1 point or 11 points."

    Thanks

Dealers always stand on everything greater than 17. Different tables have different rules on soft 17, but I have never seen or heard of a table where dealers hit on 18s and above (soft or not).

Actually, it's great if they make an error and hit on a soft 18. Sometimes, it leads to a bust and everyone at the table wins and sometimes, if you lost because of the hit, you can call it to the pits attention and get your money back.

No. The dealer is also not allowed to stand on 15 to try and beat your 14. Come on bro, it's hard enough to win as it is.

I had a dealer once that always counted the ace as 11 for the dealer so he busted a lot with an ace as his bust card.

That means he'd bust you if you doubled 11 and drew an Ace?

No, he always counted it as an 11 or a 1 for the player. He just busted his hand with an ace and nobody said anything so he continued busting it with an ace every time. He did it quite often.

It reminds me of the time I was scouting my way through a newly opened casino and spotted an opportunity at a Baccarat game where the commission for the banker bet was a 3 card 7 banker win is a push rather than a win. The dealer had just changed due to the next shift coming in and the new dealer paid the dragon 7 and then ALSO paid the banker. I sat down immediately and played baccarat with a 1.23% advantage on the banker bet but only got paid a few times on the dragon 7 bet before they fixed the dealer after a couple hours. Some idiot asked to be paid in black so the Floor had to be called who quickly told the dealer to push back the banker bets as a push before paying the dragon 7 bet. I got to hand it to those asians playing the game. Nobody gave up that it was not the right payoff and everyone started playing the banker immediately. BJ players are not so savvy.
