    Dealer accidentally flashed hole card

The dealer fumbled the cards a little bit and accidentally flashed the hole card. It was at about a 45 degree angle from the felt, for a split second. He knew it immediately and called the floor over and asked her what to do. She said to just play it out.

He had an 8 up and I caught a glimpse of the face card he had underneath. I knew then that I would lose my bet (minimum) because I had a hard 17, unless I hit it. I wasn't sure at all of what to do! So I just pretended not to see and waved it and took my minimum-bet loss.

I think I already know the answer to this question, but should I have told the floor that I saw the hole card and would be hitting my hard 17?

Why would you think you need to tell the floor you saw the hole card?

Since everyone knew the card was flashed you should have hit you stiff hand? The dealer made the error one time and there was little chance of it repeating.

It is the casinos responsibility to deal the game correctly, if they don't and you gain an advantage that is not your fault.
Luck is nothing more than probability taken personally!

I think the dealer told the floor, Stealth.

I agree, you should have hit the 17 and admit you saw the hole card.

If it's a one time error that the pit is aware of and they are fine with you playing to such information then go for it. The worst that could happen is that they tell you you can't hit your 17.

It's a completely different story if its a dealer with habit of flashing that hasn't been addressed. Hitting your hard hands would give it away way too easily.

Near the end of the post, the OP asked whether he should have told the floor that he saw the hole card (dealer total 18) before hitting his 17, neither of which he actually did.

If it was that obvious of a flash then I would have hit.

Last night a dealer flashed a hole card and the Pit Critter simply

announced the dealer's hand, and suggested that we all hit our

hands until we can beat the dealer's 19. No biggie.

Agree that hitting was no big deal. It's not as if you found a dealer who was flashing regularly. If that were the case, then hitting your 17 would have been foolish. But catching a glimpse of hole card one time AND the dealer notified the pit... I would have hit for sure.

If you're in a new place, if your bet is minimum, here's your chance to look like an idiot at low cost. You have 16 with dealer upcard if 10, with a known 8 in the hole.

Your turn to play - simply exclaim - wait for it - I never hit my 16's

It's a surrender if you can, and if it was a fluke irregular occurence.

Thanks for the responses. I figured I was OK to hit, but at the time I was hesitant because I took advantage of a weak dealer a few weeks ago at the same place (different dealer). This dealer was obviously brand new, and was making mistakes left and right in favor of several players.
