Technically, if we keep to the strictest definition of collusion, this is inaccurate. Friends soft play each other all the time at low buyin live games. Couples sometimes sit down and all but physically show their cards to each other (oftentimes, for instance, the wife/gf is new to poker and the husband/bf is trying to teach her). Usually, no one is fussed enough to make a big deal out of this, but when I've seen the latter example at a few 2/5 games and called the couple out on it, the floor quickly put a stop to it. I frankly felt like a jerk for doing it, because it was clear that even the "knowledgeable" player was no threat, but I think it was the right move for the integrity of the games.

Now, if you were to say that collusion in terms of trying to maliciously use information via signalling/soft playing etc. to gain an edge over the competition is uncommon in low buyin live games, I would be inclined to agree.

    Yes, the second part.

At the Borgata in A.C. each $2-$5 NLHE table has a Pro at it.
They need not collude, but there may be two Pros colluding IF
there is a lot of 'dead money' and either or both have run cold.

    Ethics were rather flexible.

I had given some BJ tips to a young poker player. The next day,
Tarzan and I went door-to-door in their Hotel accompanied by this
young Pro who showed us how they were around a dozen living 2
or more to a room and splitting a "casino rate" on the room' while
carving up the degenerates and amateurs at the $2-$5 tables.

There was considerable drug dealing, and we learned that most of
these pros had no address and split casino rooms in this fashion on
    a virtually permanent basis.

    It was rather pathetic.

I'm a relatively frequent player at the Borgata poker room. When there's no 5-10 running, yeah, there's almost certainly going to be pros playing 2-5. Never really saw any evidence of collusion. It's a tougher 2-5 and 5-10 lineup than a lot of rooms, but the regs definitely suffer from "fancy play syndrome", and they are very beatable if you're willing to make thin calls and resign to do more flipping than you might otherwise.

You observed people betting in strange ways at 1-2 poker? You seem to think people in 1-2 poker know what they are doing. They don't. Think of the talent in 1-2 poker as equivalent to the "ploppies" you see sitting down at a low-limit (or mid-limit) BJ table. People absolutely don't know what they are doing.
