If it's an RFID type system there are RFID microchips in the casino chips and electronic sensors in the betting circles (usually wires running under the table to a sensor under the felt. It figures your average bet and time played so the pit doesn't have to manually rate your action. It also tells the casino your minimum bet and maximum bet. Usually this info is also made available to surveillance to make it easier for them to correlate your bet to the count should they start to do a skills profile on you. It also makes it easier for the system to automatically flag you for review if your spread goes beyond a certain ratio. It's been my experience that if you set up your initial play on a new account so that a big spread doesn't correlate with the count and give the casino a chance to review your action and write you off that those systems are no more of a threat than human ratings. There are other ways to abuse such electronic bet tracking systems that I prefer to keep to myself.
