The wearing of surgical masks in some parts of Asia began when tens of millions died of an outbreak. I think it started in Japan -- but, I saw it first when visiting Kowloon, China a quarter century ago. It protects the wearer less than the average person walking down the street. In the U.S., people tend to go to work when they are sick, infecting other people. Some sort of macho, work ethic thing. May impress your boss -- but puts others at risk. When you are ill, you should avoid others. At least a mask protects others to some degree from airborne viruses when a sick person coughs or sneezes. This is particularly true in flu season. Casinos should respect this. How much it affects facial recognition, I don't know. Caucasians are lousy at identifying Asians anyhow.

Going into a coughing jag and saying your sorry and you hope nobody catches the nasty illness you are just getting over is a great way to clear a table.

Yes, it did start in Japan in response to several flu epidemics and more recently SARS. It was also done to protect people from chronic air pollution during their rapid industrialisation after WW2. The problem was exacerbated by large populations that live and work close together. The concept of wearing masks has travelled with immigrants to their new homelands and so we see it on the streets of Manhattan and Sydney.

The irony of it is that attempting to isolate yourself just worsens your immune system and you get sick that much easier. Sincerely, a guy who spends half his life in an ambulance with God only knows what virus/diseases and rarely gets as much as a cold.

There are combating theories on this. This is a bad place for medical advice.

Medical advice? Without subjecting myself to the details, how the hell did we get here from "AP's on Halloween" ?????

I have been "on the strip" at Halloween", highly entertaining and very busy and many are wearing very little of anything but no mask are allowed at table games.
Luck is nothing more than probability taken personally!

"Medical advice? Without subjecting myself to the details, how the hell did we get here from "AP's on Halloween" ?????"

Simple answer: it's a typical thread. Take any question whatsoever and wait till about, say, the 12th response. It will usually be about what the poster had for breakfast or what the price of gas is in his home state. Collectively, contributors to this forum must have one of the worst cases of ADD on the Internet. They are utterly incapable of remaining on a topic for more than a matter of minutes. One wonders how anyone on this board actually manages to keep the count all the way through a shoe.

I agree with LV Bear for the most part. But I have seen casinos allow masks during Halloween and some on NY's.....but on New Years, they were ladies who had those mask like a masquerade ball, where they are on a stick and removeable easily. Oh yeah, and on Mardi Gras times in southern/Louisiana casinos. But Fat Tuesday is REALLY not something Vegas seems to get into. But sometimes even the casinos have a little fun, too.
