    basic strategy

I have not played for a while and I am getting back into counting. I am getting ready to go to the casino and I am using casino verite software to practice.
I thought I knew basic strategy perfect but came into a problem.
    the order of decision is:
    surrender
    split
    double down
    stand/hit
but a sixteen with 2 8's the software tells me to split and not surrender against a ten is this correct?
    Any opinions are welcome

8,8vT is not the same as 16vT. 8,8 is a splittable 16. BS is to split. BS doesn't have a decision order. It has 1 correct play for the rules. Indices have a decision order.

He's not using indices. He's asking about BS.

Depends on the rules and strategy you have selected.

Yes. (See how easy that was, everyone?!)

BS is to always split 8,8 vs. T, any number of decks, any combination of normal rules (except if early surrender is permitted).

You want to say "except with ENHC"

I have not heard of ENHC being played in the United States, and is found only sparingly within Canada. However, in those jurisdictions where it is played, you are correct.

No. I am correct about what Don want to say. Period.

"No. I am correct about what Don want to say. Period."

Very new concept for me. :-) But no, sorry, you aren't correct.

"You want to say 'except with ENHC.'"

If I wanted to say that, then I would have said that. :-)

The vast majority of all games overseas do NOT permit surrender and certainly not EARLY surrender. So, when we designate ENHC, it means that we lose all to a dealer's natural, but that surrender is NOT permitted. Because, if surrender were permitted, then, by definition, it would have to be early surrender, which is why I wrote it as I did.

Note that a game can perfectly well be ES but NOT be ENHC, which was A.C. in the old days. You could early surrender, but you did NOT lose all to a natural, if you doubled or split.

So, to recap: 8,8 v. T, with ENHC and no surrender, you hit. With early surrender, you surrender.

So, sorry, I said what I meant, and I meant what I said.

    Clear?

Don't you consider ENHC as normal rule ?

"Don't you consider ENHC as normal rule ?"

In Europe, yes! :-) But yet again, the point is that ENHC strategy is to HIT 8,8, v. T. It only becomes surrender if, obviously, surrender is offered. And, if surrender is offered in conjunction with ENHC, well, we call it early surrender!

    "Any opinions are welcome."

One more thing: we don't ask for opinions on BS any more than we ask for opinions on how much 2 + 2 is.
