Combinatorics Alalysis for blackjack basic strategy

I was wondering how the combinatorics analysis of blackjack occurred. What are the methods of computation? What, if any, algorithms are used? Any books on combinatorics concerning blackjack out there you recommend? I feel that having a deeper look into blackjack would help strengthen not only an appreciation, but fundamental understanding of blackjack.

Oh, and I would prefer a composition dependent analysis over total dependence, but it is a preference not a requirement.

Read about Roger Baldwin, Wilbert Cantey, Herbert Maisel and James McDermott, "The Four Horsemen of Aberdeen" and also Edward O. Thorp. They are all in the Blackjack Hall of Fame. You can Google them.

Try "The Theory of Blackjack by Peter Griffin (also in the BJH of Fame) and "The Theory of Gambling and Statistical Logic" by Richard A. Epstein for starters.

That'll keep you busy for a year or two.

    Thanks Bodarc!

I was aware of the Four Horsemen, even tried looking for their paper on the work they did.(Could not find!)

I have ToB and will look at it...again! It's nice having a book to go back to after a long time!

Epstein I am not familial with. Would check out his work.

Do you/anyone else have any other books than can help with writing algos for gaming mathematics in combos?

    Here it is: http://blackjack-square.com/site/fil...ackjack.35.pdf

The paper begins by laying out the rules of Blackjack, and proceeds to describe the "common rules" of the time (1956) as single deck, S17, DOA, DAS. I'll just let that sink in.

The original journal article was followed by a book in 1957 - "Playing Blackjack to Win"
There was but one printing of 5,000 copies. It was priced at $1.75 and was spiral bound.
    In 2008 it was re-printed.
It can be had cheaply. It ought to be very cheap because it is of no more than historic value.
By today's standards, it is very poor, and I find myself wishing that it had been re-written (by ?)

There are only a few beginner's books on Blackjack that are really good.

Best, IMHO, is 1980's "How To Play Winning Blackjack" by Julian Braun

It is (truly) a prized possession.

    Ditto
One of BEST books ever; especially on explaining basic strategy and using graphics to reflect. If you can't take this book and Revere's Playing Blackjack as a Business and not self teach yourself basic strategy and the "why's and wherefore's", you are literally unreachable and unteachable. LOL
