OK, the response about being out of money has been assumed to be a measure of OP abilities, discipline and playing style, without being properly vetted. In fact, I posted a response that called his credentials into questions also.
OP answered the question of why he quit with too limited information. We have no idea if he quit (ran out of money) due to a death in his family, a medical emergency, or he was robbed. We just jumped to the conclusion that he was a scamming idiot. And he may be...?
However, the diatribes of "thou shall not ever charge for instructions" and "I can teach you HiLo in 12 minutes” are all bull shit. We have ALL paid for instruction via books, videos, software or other means and it is blatantly hypocritical to suggest that others should not seek assistance from ANY source they feel needed.
I would add that the technical knowledge about card counting is rudimentary and easy to learn, but harder to master the skill, and the execution of that skill is of more importance. Combined, they must be done in context to the myriad of casinos they might play. Your 12 minute training will not get that job done.
Let me come clean, I own and operate a website that promotes mentoring and various software tools on blackjack and other AP ventures for a fee, so this is my biased view. I do not suggest my qualifications rise to the top of the known advantage players but I do believe my qualifications and experiences are well suited to help others in a wide range of advantage plays.
I do not engage in the "which count is better debate", as I have had people come to me that are already competent in various level 2, 3 count systems looking for assistance in more advanced ways. If a newbie comes, then I recommend HiLo while educating them about the other systems and suggesting if their involvement with advantage play progresses to level of “professional” then they should research and consider other more advanced systems. In fact, more difficult systems are needed for a wide variety of other advantage plays.
I am currently mentoring some half dozen people or small teams and they are certainly capable of providing a “report card” on the value.
I am also a member of various forums (some are free and some charge like this one (another scam artist…LOL)) and I answer questions and post opinions to member inquiries. I believe this is a part of giving back and, selfishly, keeps me in touch with the advantage world and its people.
While I truly resent the implications put forth in this thread, if these activities relegate me to a “Scum Bag” or a “Scam Artist” then I am your man.

Someone uses hi low ------------ he gets trashed for it.
Someone asks a simple question ----------he gets trashed for it.
Someone writes an article to help new players ------------ he gets trashed for it.
Someone charges new players to tutor them ------------- he gets trashed for it.
Someone dares to smile -------- he gets trashed for it.
Never ceases to amaze me.

Actually, in 100% honesty I've never spent a penny on a product, tutor, or forum. When I learned it was very limited internet information and I basically figured most everything out on my own... Connecting some dots on forums with FREE memberships and posts. I have bought probably 7-8 books but that was AFTER I had a winning game and I wanted to read them anyways to see if I missed anything or more/less for the stories/experiences, not the counting knowledge. I've never bought any software, never paid for a membership to any site, never paid someone to teach me, etc. Maybe this is what gives me a bit of the "do it yourself" mentality, perhaps. I guess I feel because I compiled all the info in to those articles anyone who starts now should have a LIGHT YEARS head start on where I started. i.e. I turned out alright and I didn't have 1/10th of the information in those, so anyone else starting out now should be able to do it easily with those and the other free information available (such as me tutoring for free). To add to this I still think there's tremendous value in tutoring to a new player (paid or not), but my bigger beef with the OP was his qualification and advertising to a forum where newbies would see and have the potential to be mislead.
