If You could pick one Person to Mentor You who would it be.

I have always wanted to ask this question to everyone and have to some close Friends when having lunch or dinner. If You could pick one Person to privately mentor You in You AP life and money was no object who would it be? Or Who is the one Person that You would like to have a 1 hour lunch with? Could be about blackjack, Video Poker, Hole Card games. I think that the 2 names that come the most when I have asked a couple close Friends are (A) James Grosjean and (B) Richard Munchkin, hey who could go wrong with one of those guys.

Second half of the question if I You could have that 1 hour lunch with anyone in the AP world who would that be? Ill give My list and would like to hear what Yours would be. I think that I would have to pick Ed Thorp just for historic views. I would really like to hear some of those stories about the early times and just roasting the casinos back in the day when no one had a clue. Here is just a list to pick from please add in some of Your picks. Also sadly some are no longer with us so I left them off the list.

    James Grosjean
    Richard Munchkin
    Don Schlesinger
    Kevin Blackwood
    Max Rubin
    Al Francesco
    Arnold Snyder
    Stanford Wong
    Norm

James Grosjean or Richard Munchkin. Simple as that. On that note I'll be in Vegas mid-April. Where do you want to eat lunch, Richard?

I would select Al Francesco as a mentor.

Excellent reply Moses, I was hoping You would chime in, This is just it, You can read all the books You want but somethings are just not talked about. They say most Pros where trained by a Pro or a very high level player. Thanks You Moses

I'm not a full time pro by any stretch, however, I would pit my skills against anyone. I never really had a mentor (I did have a couple of guys influence me a tad). I have mentored a couple of guys along the way. For myself, it was a voracious thirst for knowledge - much like when I taught myself to program - I read a lot and played a lot.

The biggest contributor to my success, regardless of any issues I eventually encountered, was Wongs site. Though I understand the board has its issues now, there was a time when the quality of content was exceptional. I continually picked up tidbits - sometimes only a phrase - or a particular post - which enhanced EV. The archives contain all kinds of gems.

This site is also an excellent site for newbies, or those just past that stage. Hopefully, I've given back, and for that matter, there is still the occasional tidbit from here that I can add to my Arsenal. In any event, these forums will hopefully make people think for themselves, encourage them to absorb and grow.

Without a doubt -- James Grosjean.
