    I was privy to some inside information on the Mahowny caper.

    He and I shared the same host - who was the key person who

    flew to Canada to expedite the conversion of the Canadian

    bearer bonds. She purjered herself before a Federal Grand Jury;

    and being a devout Catholic she suffered the pangs of guilt, but

    Caesars "rewarded" her very generously. Enuf' Said !

    I passed on watching the remake because the original was so bad. The remake is about when bond made his "00" status and I enjoyed the remake once I saw it.

    Oh man! I just watched "Owning Mahowny." That film was truly difficult to watch. His bankrolls get bigger and bigger and blows all of them at the tables. He doesn't even specialize in one game. He keeps trying since he has a "system." The only moment of hope I had is when he won $9 million at baccarat. He finally sits back and then walks away! I cheered for the guy! Later, he wastes that money partially in Vegas and later in Atlantic City. It was gut wrenching!

    I never understood the thought process behind that. I mean what's the point of continuing gambling. He won, game over. Why not pay back the embezzled funds and retire from gambling. Almost like the guy had some twisted joy out of
    experiencing the disaster of spazzing out. Same thing with Archie Karas, how can you go up millions of dollars playing a -EV game like craps and be willing to push the envelope. I could understand if they had a extremely low IQ, but
    I don't think that was the case for either of them. I think Mahoney was one of the youngest bank managers ever at that time.

    Their actions were like playing six rounds of Russian Roulette with a six shot gun. Well duh, you have to lose.

    I guess it's the same sickness that caused them to lose that allowed them to win so much. After thinking about my comment, I realized you would never win so much unless you had no reason or boundaries to begin with.

    Money was never the point, it was the high. You search for the highest and fastest roller coaster you can.

    It's not a thought process. It's an emotional process, a "high" as noted in post 20; also known as an addiction.
