I don't question whether or not they do it -- or what the effects / reason are... But how would he even know what the first card is?
Just a guess - the tens could be marked, so that the dealer could see or feel when one was on top. I'm sure there are other clever ways as well. You might find this video entertaining. It was linked in another thread somewhere on here, I believe. It's not relevant to pitch games but it sure is clever.
fwiw the dealer puts all used cards in a discard tray. after the cut card they put the two decks into an ASM. they take out the shuffled decks and put it back into the discard tray. the discard tray has a slit where the dealer slips the cut card into. guaranteed an insane 75% pen

first off, how the hell were you getting away with that bet spread in a dd game? with that sort of spread and no heat, could be cheating. also, are you sure you're as good a counter as you think? most likely just variance, though.
