    Tolerance, penn issues..

I keep reading on forums of poor tolerance, of DD games in particular, that even a 1-6 DD game spread is often not possible or a trap and so on.

I am of the view that tolerance is far more related to your age, your act, your looks, whether you play rated or unrated, your demeanor and your goals. Many many local recreational players, retirees or locally employed, do just fine at DD games while playing rated.

i have a friend, retired, plays locally in about 4 casinos, rated. His goal each day is to earn $200-$250. He always leaves when he is up $200. Sometimes it takes him one DD shoe, msometimes he gets down $500+ and it might take 3+ hours. He goes to one casino each day! Uses HiLo, spreads 1-6 and he is quite obvious if someone observes him. He chats up the dealers and everyone seems to know him.

i have a bad DD game almost next door and it's the only casino in a 100+ miles. Because the game, DD, dealt face down, H17, double 9-11, no DAS, penn about 75% and almost always with 2-4 players. There is no room for camouflage so I don't use any. There is tremendous variance but for 2 years now, playing 4-5 times a week, rat holing a bit, I am up, made a couple of thousand each of the past two years, EV is less than $4-6 per hour but, for me, it's enjoyable, they all know me and I like the regulars. This casino seems to have decided that even with counting and a spread of 1-6, it cannot be beaten so they don't seem to mind. Their records show me as having lost $4500 last year (mine shows I was up about $1800).

so, my point is that tolerance levels differ based upon the individual.

How good a game you choose to play is usually directly related to the tolerance you will face but not always. It is the biggest single tolerance factor IMHO. If you play a crappy game they usually tolerate just about anything. The best games are usually protected aggressively. There is no blanket rule but it works pretty good for generalization. Protect your tolerant games especially if they don't suck.

these rules are crazy.. I would never wager more than $5 a hand on this game.. I know you like playing and all, but your monthly out of town trip that you post about frequently will get you a better bang for your buck. The negative swings with this game must be rough.. Have you tried playing poker or VP at this casino?

I am certain that neither -$4,500 nor +$1,800 is even close to correct.
The casinos is more accurate than you are. You are playing a nasty game
and are lucky to be even. You stated that you made $4 to $6 an hour.
That wide a range suggests that you may be unable to accurately compute
the correct amount. IF it is +$5 an hour, and you made $1,800, that equates
to having played about 35 hrs. a week; and I am doubting that you are sick
enough to play a junk game, that many hours, per week !

$4-$6 /hour ? why would anyone care? It makes little sense to watch and evaluate you.

For someone who plays a bad game with such a weak spread, you worry about heat a lot. No one is going to bother you Zee, unless you camp out at SunCoast, South Point, or El Cortez... And even then, if I remember correctly (according to your last Vegas trip report), El Cortez didn't even back you off...

But to answer your question; yes, I'm sure tolerance or heat might vary by person. If you have a young, Caucasian male, wearing cargo shorts/hat, playing unrated chunky green to black... Then that person won't last long. But if you've got an older Asian lady though... That person will probably last waaaaayyy longer.

First, my records, to the extent I keep them, are far more accurate than the casino's record of me. It's because I record how much I win or lose immediately after I leave the casino. The casino can't keep track of my ratholing between $100- $150 each time. Where I may be wrong is the actual time I spend at the table. My per hour EV may be as high as $8 per hour.

Because of the pen, it's a poor but playable game. I play it because it's the only casino in my town and more like a friendly neighborhood tavern, like the "Cheers" movie. By the casino's own incorrect record, I lost $4600 last year there. That's less than $400 a month. My record shows I won $150 a month there (or $1800). I play about $12 hours a week there or roughly $50 hours a month. It's how I entioned the $3 per hour.

its fun, it's practice and then when I take the trip to the big city, or Tunica and other places, there are better games a bit larger spread. Playing 8 hours at 3 casinos in the big city about 2 hours away this Thursday evening and Friday morning, I made $1000 (at one point, I was down $1600 at one casino).

the original post was about how tolerance varies with the individual and making assumptions about heat because a 30 year old spreading $25 to $1000 gets backed off is incorrect.
