    AP Table Hog

    Etiquette question -

The last many times at my local store there's been an AP that's been camping out for marathon sessions at the best game in the casino (DD game). I've exercised courtesy up until now and have not sat down, but it's getting to the point where I'm not getting a chance to play, because he's always there when I show up and he never leaves. He has a polite 1-6 spread so maybe he figures he can play marathons and they will tolerate it?

What do I do? Maybe sit down at the table and start spreading with him like the bobbsey twins so he gets the message and maybe leaves and let's me play a little??

I have seen this situation before.

What you need to do is to get to that one (1) table before he does.

Then see if he is unethical to sit down and remain seated.

I suggest slipping him a note with your cell phone no. on it.

You two need to split up the days or the shifts that you play on.

    Hopefully, he will be reasonable.

    moses,

This isn't a matter of etiquette.

Unless you are willing to kick this guys ass in the deeper recesses of the casino parking lot,

    or wait until he goes to empty his bladder so that you can force a conversation in the John;

you are trying not to EXPOSE yourself. Whoever gets to the table first is the winner.

If a table has two Card Counters at it, the chances of getting 86'd rises most dramatically.

    SELF-DESTRUCTION !!

Do you let a rat continue to nibble the cheesecake? You have zero choice in my estimation-burn the hog out. Do not enagage a confrontation. Remember that nice guys do indeed finish last.

You can also put on a suit and tie, and walk up behind him and give him the tap yourself.

Just say "No more Blackjack for you. You're too good for us."

Of course if you are like 21.5 years of age, this won't work.

If it is the only table, you just play and both of you learn to adjust. You have no right to complain and he has no obligation to play short session to accommodate you and vice versa. Do not slip him a note. You could be seen by surveillance and it will be the end of both of you. If you want to initiate a conversation, just say that you are going to the bathroom and he may follow you if he wants to talk, assuming you are both same gender.

If this is the only one or two DD table in the casino, it is most likely that this is counter trap and closely watched anyway. One AP at a time really doesn't matter. You should just go ahead and play with him and other AP. I would say the best approach to this game is modest spread like the other AP doing.

Course, you can try irritating him and making him leave. Whenever he gets closer to max bet, use up all the other spots on the table, slow the game down, get phone calls, go from 1-2 hands and back. Maybe then, if you beat him to the table, he won't sit down.

Outside of Las Vegas, many of us can get away playing straight counting with no camouflage if we keep our wins reasonable, do enough to seem like we are not a winner. In my local casino and two others in the big city, I play rated and I pretty much straight count, never try winning more than $1k, mostly leave up a couple of hundred, ensure they note it when I lose. It helps that I am not young

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I am going to take a middle of the road approach and let him know (in AP language) that I am waiting to play. So for instance, the last time I was waiting and watching over his shoulder, I saw him hesitate on his two face cards when the dealer was showing a 4 and the count was sky high. I knew he was thinking about splitting the 10s.

    Before I walked away, I just said in a low voice - "4 5 6, 6 5 4" I think he might have got the point. We'll see....

    Hey BD,

From my experience, there's nothing you can really do about campers. You should consider the polite approach of trying to approach them in the washroom and negotiate some playing time or just play when they don't (I'm sure they sleep a few hours), but in my experience, there is a lot of selfishness. It's really kind of inevitable if the game offers good conditions and is tolerant. If you just let it go on, you will only find that the game is burnt to shambles by the camper once you get any time in AFTER them. You need to attempt to take control of the situation now to try and get some EV out. If politeness doesn't work, then aggressively push them out by betting 3 boxes and camping yourself and they may get the message. It's really an unfortunate situation but understandable. They are your competition and only the strongest survive.

Dont ever be a situation where you regret not fighting to get your own time in when the game is burnt out. After all, that money ain't going into your pocket.

I like this approach. He may never figure out it wasn't a real backoff. I would get a friend to do it though.

This ruse won't work without a security guard in tow. My remedy of pushing a series of buttons is foolproof. Simple, direct and highly effective.
