To all. Are back offs just a part of the life of an AP? I've been slowly inching my ramp up and trying to be careful but there comes a point where letting perceived heat eats impact your play takes away a significant component of your advantage. I wonder if someone could put together a top ten list of camoflage guidelines that were their picks for heat relief versus EV.

I'm going to reread NOrm's chapter on camo and Don's boo to see if he has more on it.
Yep, eventually the BO's will come. Whether it be 6 trips, 6 months, or 6 years from now... someone, somewhere will notice you're not like the other players. Maybe it's from your plays, maybe it's from your ramp, or maybe it's from your Win/Loss record where they see you're just too much of a winner. There are counter measures to all of these, as well as different approaches (ghost vs chatty kathy). I highlight a few "free cover" and "cover with a cost" recommendations in an article (2 of 3) I wrote. Feel free to add it to your other reading as more information can't hurt =). http://wizardofvegas.com/articles/A-...n-Blackjack-2/

I got the most heat ever when i hit a big LL bet($5 max). They acted as if I reached over and stole all the chips. Suits were hastily running around. I knew what was coming, after i cashed out and left a suit with a thug was outside starring me down. Thug says something to suit, suit says "no but I want his picture" havent been back since.

They were a poll min bets - count was extremely negative, though I don't recall what. There were hand after hand plays not conforming to basic.

Back Offs come sooner or later. My second last local bo came after a long term shearing. A team had gone through, created some havoc - mgmt cleaned house and I got caught in the wash. My last backoff came from a store that I hadn't played much at, but did have a losing record. I had a 5 week insane winning streak - as in really insane. Funny, they wanted my name for their loyalty card 5 minutes before the backoff. Never did get it though.

I hit two correct, favorable insurance calls yesterday. Next shoe, I was half-shoed, and almost immediately after the round began, I was asked for ID and a player's card. This was before any major spread, as well. Some depends on the attitudes and mindsets of the shift, their tolerance levels, etc. It's all part of the game.

    How I handle Insurance
~ for Cover and for Risk Aversion.

    Utilizing Hi-Lo T.C.'s (for clarity)

At +3 and above I take (full) Insurance.

    At +2 I take (full) Insurance on 21, 20, 19, 11

At T.C. +1 I take ("Insurance for less") -- generally 1/4+ of my bet.

    At ZERO
    (0) or below I take ""Insurance for less") -- generally 1/8+ of my bet.

Your 21 has to be a blackjack since your insurance decision is made with only 2 cards. Even money on blackjack at +2? Now, I can see, if allowed, to take even money on blackjack and to take insurance at some monster count. Just clarifying

It was easier to write 21 then to write blackjack.
