like you say CV software uses it, so there you go a perfect reason you want to know this information for your actual play. for comparison reasons. you can see how your doing on a round by round, hour by hour, day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year basis. or you can scout how busy a casino is, at various times and determine what kind of value you can get out of a joint according to the time of day and how much play you can expect to get, sorta thing.
you can use such info to compare games that have different rules, but that may offer you a different amount of play. so you can determine opportunity costs and values, sorta thing.
you can use the information regarding the amount of play you can expect to project into the future about just how much money you can expect to make on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
maybe you have some games that you have competition cutting into your action, you can determine what that may cost you and how it may or may not be worthwhile to deal with your competition.
this sort of information can help you decide just how hard or not you may want to work, lol.
I do agree with you, Sagefr0g. I do not much keep records, but I do review what happened at the end of the day. It is simple enough to figure out what your win rate per hour was and easy enough to know what it should have been. That's how I size up what happened that day. As I saw my win rate consistently exceed expectations I figured some losing days were on the way, not necessarily so, and I alway hoped they would never appear, but darn it, they did come, but at least they were not entirely unexpected.
