No Even Money at a 6:5 game

I saw a horrid double deck game paying 6:5 on blackjacks. I noticed they also specifically disallowed "even money", but would allow you to insure your BJ against a dealer's ace. Of course, in a 3:2 game, even money is the same as insuring, but in 6:5 it is not. Just seems like you are getting screwed twice here. Is that a common rule on 6:5 games?

I certainly don't frequent this place. I went there for the second time in a year hoping to find better conditions. Didn't pull any cash out of my wallet. Obviously will not be returning there soon.

In fact, I have never sat down at a table here. Funny thing, on my previous visit, the DD game had a $25 minimum (it was $5 on my most recent visit) with one person playing it. Now I am thinking he requested the minimum to keep others away. Imagine that! Stay away! I want to play this trash all by myself!

"No even money" was part of the 6:5 game at my local, when they used to have one. If anything, I would be surprised if they a casino paying 6:5 DID offer even money. Not offering it seems more consistent with the fact that BJ is supposed to pay 6:5 in such a game.

Still, in my case it was a 6-deck game as well. And dealt from a CSM, at least when I saw it. So I guess it's not worth mentioning from an AP standpoint anyway.

I understand and agree with what lurppis and Tthree have said. It does seem to make sense, but I had never noticed this before (I also give these games very little of my time) and was wondering if it was common. Sounds like it might be the norm.

It might just be that other 6:5 games share the no-even-money rule but don't explicitly point it out like the one you saw did. This would be consistent with Tthree's analysis that even money is really just a way of speeding up the process of insuring a BJ.

Instead of even money, tell them you want 80%. If they say no,say: I'm guaranteed 80%, I'll just insure for 40%.
