Recently when I've been playing with chatty dealers, I have tough time multi tasking and and answering the dealer's question properly with almost losing the count. How did you guys train yourselves to multi-task? Thanks.

My hearing sucks especially with lots of background sounds like in a casino. I just look like I am listening. I can't hear them no matter how hard I try. The get the idea after a while and start dealing rather than talking. If they ask I explain I am hearing impaired and can't hear them. It is really funny when I get other players whispering to me. I couldn't hear them if they yelled with all the background noise. Too much shooting and loud rock 'n roll in my history. To you young people stay out of loud environments like night clubs unless you are wearing ear protection. Wear ear protection when shooting or if you think you might be in a gun fight. Don't listen to loud music. If it doesn't blow your speakers it will wreck your hearing in the long run. AP is about the long run and the AP move is to protect your hearing.
Hey, Wino!
Love your name!
Here's a thought... Don't play solo vs. the Dealer if you are having trouble keeping the RC. The fewer players at the table, the more likely YOU are going to be asked to converse. Instead, only play at tables with other players at first so you can keep up. If the others leave, you can leave, too, and say you don't like to play alone. That's common. If that doesn't seem apropos at the moment, just revert to BS and don't worry about counting. You don't want to give yourself away to the Dealer.
Over time, the counting, betting, BS and index plays will become part of your 'habit' memory which will free up your 'smart' brain to carry on trivial conversations with people. You can also use muscle cues to help. For example, if the RC is +5, hold all the fingers of your right hand together somewhat tightly. This won't be noticed by others (if you do it right) but it reminds you of the count. Think about ways to hold your fingers and hands (feet and toes?) that will cue you to retain the RC while chatting. Practice these 'cues' with CVBJ and allow distractions. eventually, you won't need the cues.
Good luck, Wino!

Easy! get married and have a few kids. Then sit down with Casino Verite and start playing. The family may not have said a word to you in hours but the moment you start to practice I guarantee that you wife will need to tell you what her cousin's, step father's sister's friend heard last week on the radio. All the wile WWIII breaks out with the kids as they argue about who touched who first. Then realize that if you don't hold a conversation with your wife you will experience heat like you have never felt before and may be "backed off" for months. If you can avoid this "back off" during practice you are ready for the tables.
Also suggest that you practice seeing the count as a number in your mind's eye as opposed to memorizing or repeating in your head. After practicing this for a while, your ability to retain the count amidst distractions will improve dramatically.
IMO, talking with a wife or whoever may not be good practice, since you can do the whole "mhmm, yep, oh yeah..." thing.
Try singing to the radio or something so you're forced to think about something else and cannot focus on the count.

Play the lowest min tables, flat bet if you lose count or start new count if you have lost the count and its early in the shoe (remember to make appropriate TC adjustment). The low min. Tables are crowded, noisy and if you can count there, you hare ready for bigger stakes.
As far as counting, watch a movie and play and count as you watch it..
Here is a method I use if a pit or anyone wants a longer conversation than normal. With this method, you can forget about the count and give your full attention to them. Left hand only. Top of the thigh where it joins the hip counts to 9, middle top counts to 19 and nearer the knee counts to 29. Inside the thigh at the same spots is negative. You can go higher if you need to by picking spots on your leg.

Ever wonder how concentrated you look, how much your eyes dance around, or how much eye contact you actually give?
Place a camera on a tripod facing you and record yourself dealing to yourself and counting (or ask a friend/roommate/SO to record you).
Make eye contact with the camera, have conversation, and tell a story.
Review the clip and see what you need to improve on.
