Think I'd better clarify my philosophy and origin of the concept if the 9 sidecount. With only occasional exception, 100% of my play is shoe, and 99.9% of that is 6d. Keeping multi side counts on 6d is not a productive endeavour, in that the gain on multi deck is neglible. Halves to hi lo is not so negligible, and Is A worthwhile endeavour, at least for me. The 5&7 sidecounts u are referring to will help you to increase your PE and potentially save several single and 2 unit (and larger) bets.
The original thought is no surrender index for 12v10 utilizing either hi lo or halves, so, in those situations, I simply hit. It occurred to me that the concept could be easily extended to 12v2. Passing 12v2 is warranted at true+3. Utilizing halves, 9's are incorporated into the count, and the actual surplus or deficit is unknown, unless a sidecount is taken. I don't care about the sidecount in moderate counts, and I drop it often in an early part of the shoe. I simply follow proper index play when the scenario pops up.
Now, if I have a monster count, which incorporates 9's with a 12v2, the index to pass is clearly indicated. I want that extra bit of information to know if I have a legit hit. Though the conditions necessary to take advantage of it are uncommon, the bang for the buck is huge, and I have done remarkably well with it.
