If your friends know how to play when is it going to dawn on them that they don't need your help? If they both would have lost $10K each on your latest trip would you still be friends with them and vice versa? So losing wouldn't have put a strain on your relationship with them? People get emotional when they lose currency in the casino, even if they don't particularly need the currency because they are affluent, you may be setting yourself up as a scapegoat further down the road because they don't fully understand what it is that you do. Just wait for the first BIG losing session. That will test your friendship.
Why is this even being argued? His friends came up with the idea to give him $500 if they won. No reason to call him senseless, wannabe, or whatever other names. Perhaps he didn't do the smartest thing in the world (playing with others who are spreading with the count)....and of course the whole situation is -EV for his friends. Not a particularly interesting story, especially since it wasn't really even team play....but who cares?
Live and let live.

The eye in the sky must have been asleep to not spot your relay technique, with both buddies watching you when you raise your bet so they can raise theirs might look suspicious with 2 big bettors on the table. Even the ignorant dealer should have caught on to that.... but the casino employs idiots.
They definitely don't need my help. They also go to the casino purely for entertainment. The $10K each was disposable to them. The $500 commission was them taunting me with a prize to prove a point that counting does not work. I accepted. All this "Taking advantage of my high roller friends" is really crazy. I don't know how else to put it. It was their idea. They don't need me to play. They were trying to prove to me that counting does not work. That's it.
To them it's just a single data point anyway. They still don't really believe it has validity and it's only because they don't have the patience and dedication to be that serious about a game that is just a hobby for them. Their revenue stream clearly comes from another place. Not blackjack.

ok...i will break down the lesson of this story for you...and make it very simple and sweet:
player one is the OP...enters HL table and buys in w/ 2 "friends"
player twe goes to HL room, buy in for said $2000 and spreads to $800 bet
now you tell me....who do you thick raises more suspicion and potential longevity
...of course, you will lie and say "I am inexperienced and the eye doesn't care"...so please don't try it....it's laughable
and the handle REMAINS!!!
GOOD LUCK!
