    VIP invite to Blackjack tourney

So I had a back off from a local store the other day out of the blue. Told they didnt like my style of play and not to play table games anymore. I've always shown yearly loss and now I got an email invite from the marketing manager for an exclusive VIP invite blackjack tournament. Very nice prize pool and very limited to entries. In the email I'm considered a valuable blackjack player which is why I was getting the invite. I know after a back off you should stay away for a while but is it ok to go and play this tournament which they gave me invite for? I don't plan on playing any table games for cash while I'm there. The back off was unusual I was playing for a few minutes and only up 15 units and not showing any ridiculous spreads. I've been going to this store for a long time(many years) and never had any issues. So should I go or stay away a bit longer?

Chances are, you'll start the tournament and if you make it to the next round they'll kick you out of it. If it's in Mississippi, however, once you play the first hand of the tournament they have to let you complete the whole thing, so if they kick you out if has to be before the tournament starts.

This sounds oddly like the situation that a poker player was in. They played BJ got backed off. Went to play in a feeder tourney for the WSOP and kicked out of the tourney.

He also had to fight to get his buy in back

I would be careful, since the marketing may just be completely in the dark about back-offs.

I would assume that the entry fee for the tourny is comped if he got a personal email from the marketing manager.

Playing a slot tournament surely isn't playing table games.

Playing a blackjack? tournament might be construed as playing table games.
May the cards fall in your favor.

It all depends. If you really want to go back and play at this place more then you probably need a little more cooling off time. Past that though I don't think a tournament would be that big of a deal. Marketing is probably in the dark to your back off and if it's a free entry and you don't have to travel very far, I'd certainly go for it. Especially if it's worth it with your "VIP Invite" and there's an "okay" prize pool. They'll have your name on a list and when you check in for the tourney I'd think that might be the only time your card would be used and some kind of red flag would be thrown. After you're in, you don't use your card at the tables, right?

I'm not familiar enough with tournaments to really know how much they're looked at. To my untrained tournament opinion, I thought they were looked at as little dinky fun events that PB's/etc don't really care about because counting doesn't help you very much (especially in the one's that only play like half a shoe for the first round). Tourney's are more about stack sizes and proper betting with your position (to my understanding).

I know someone that got booted from a huge prize pool, whale only, invite only BJ tournament for having been Griffinned as a card counter. They said it wouldn't be fair to the other whales. Although the didn't use the term whales.

I asked my host at a store if I was allowed to play in the BJ tournament because I keep getting comped mass marketing slot tournaments, and BJ tournament invites. He told me I was not allowed entry into the BJ tournament. You are taking a risk if you have to travel far by going into the tournament, and being told too bad you can't play. Or even worse, winning the tournament, and your prize being revoked.

Assuming that the entry is comped, the only risk is lost travel time, and possibly antagonizing the casino further so that they move to a full 86ing of you. If the travel time / expense is minimal or there are other playable stores nearby, then I would definitely go for it.

The invitations always include (literal) fine print stating that
they can exclude you from the event without giving cause, etc.

This was a while ago but I did return for the BJ tournament since the casino was about a half hour away. It was a two day thing where you checked in the night prior and they comped me off a suite, which they had never done before, and took advantage of that. Everything went fine at check in got the freebies they gave away attended the couple cash drawings got my table/seat assignment.

The next day I arrived at the table, the pit boss came over to verify everyone in their seats. It came to me and I could see the pause as he saw my name but went ahead with confirming. Then a minute later he tapped me on the shoulder and said I couldn't play. He said I got unlucky that he was working that pit that day or I would have been able to play but he had to enforce the upper management decision. He did appear genuine and issued me a $50 food comp for the trouble.

TBH, I'm glad a backoff came because this place wasn't offering a good blackjack game and likely don't get many counters to go out of there way anymore to play here. Once upon a time they did offer a good game but greed has got the best of them and they offer shitty rules and penetration now. I was forcing myself to play a losing game here likely simply because it was close.

I've since found better stores with further drives out and have seen an increase in my ROI as a result. So the backoff here actually helped me rework my game and not settle for less than average.
