    The trouble is when you do something in opposition to the book and say the book said to do it. A more vague response leaves no place for this trap.

    In my personal lessons with Al Kaufman, he told me to never double and to never split

    Although this does make you sound like a sucker, I agree, you can't say anything that would make it sound like you have committed to a particular way of playing. I personally like using anecdotes like "one time I saw a guy at this very table split 10s and he kept splitting, when the dealer bust, he won like a couple hundred right there!"
