To all asking why a casino would do this when they don't need to:

During Ed Thorp's first blackjack counting trial in Las Vegas many years ago, they asked themselves the same thing. They concluded that casinos cheat because they make more money than if they don't. It's as simple as that and the same reason with crooked Indian places today.

While true, the risk of being caught should be enough of a deterrent for all except the "self regulated" places. Even they, probably can't take the risk of having the word get out by way of disgruntled dealers, floor people, etc. That's my belief on it.
