Went through indices and memorised more of them. Practiced on Verite.

Took bus to casino. Sat down. Bought in for the absolute minimum. Lost the first seven hands.

Waited for the count to get good... then better.

The true count is +5 and we are still over two decks from the end. Dealer has a 5 showing, I get dealt a 10 and a 19. I double my max bet and draw a picture card. Dealer busts.

And after that I finally won a succession of max bets. Hooray for me.

After that it was a roller coaster ride, and my next round of very positive counts wasn't as good. Lost most of my earnings from that earlier sequence. But I recovered later with a lot of luck on moderately good counts.

I left $880 ahead.

I didn't think it would ever happen again. I hope that this is the end of the big losing streak for now, though I am still $4700 off my all time high.

"We're in it for the long run." Big mistake. Be a recreational AP Gambler, do it less often, if you win, go for a vacation or treat your partner, find something with less up and down. There are full time AP's out there but far as I know, most give up in 10+ years and go on to do something else (Write books, find other sources of income). You will live a far happier life.

Each bet level has its own N0. My perception is often that I make my money on the moderate bets and the big bets just make the ride wild. What is really going on is I reach N0 quickly on my smaller advantage bets because they are made so much more frequently. The larger bets are made so infrequently that you don't perceive enough bets in a short time to feel their value is what it actually is. You are building EV as you play. Eventually results approach EV. If you manage your BR properly you should not think in terms of actual results but EV. If you play long enough they will approach one another. You can go crazy thinking about actual results. If you are severely underfunded actual results really affect you a lot. You need to select your opportunities even more carefully to maximize your chances to increase your BR enough before busting out to become funded properly. Like Don says usually going broke happens early before you increase your BR significantly. The odds they will get your BR then drops significantly unless you are resizing bets as your BR increases.
