Any of the above interpretations are possible.

I just recently had a man dressed sporty and no tie come from the pit and talk to me about his career of card counting sharing information about his experiences that seemed to parallel my own style a bit. WTF? I assumed I was either suspected or ID'ed as a card counter, yet I have not felt any heat since. I did stay away from that store for a while. Listening to the man I of course feigned ignorance of his apparent meaning. I asked him if he had a photographic memory (as if that were necessary to count cards) and he walked away. I'd hate to lose this spot, but I have been playing there for three years already, so I guess I've achieved a reasonable amount of longevity and should just chalk it up to "nothing is forever" and count my blessings. So long! smiley-sad010.gif

Also gaming agents can and do get involved in casino operations. State gaming agents are often assigned to work at casino X full time and are on call 24/7 for that particular casino. Sometimes an advantage play can be going down on the floor and the casino is clueless to what is happening. They may suspect cheating. So they call there local gaming agent in to observe what is going on. Often watching from the surveillance room. Agents can also be involved in backoffs and backroomings.
I've experienced gaming agents attempting to blend in at and near a table my teammate and I played at. I didn't realize it at first, but as you mentioned, casino employees could not determine what was going on, and brought in gaming agents to assist. And as you correctly mentioned, these were agents assigned to this casino. We put everything together when we were ultimately barred (obviously, too little too late) -- the agent that removed us had sat at our table previously. After the ordeal, my teammate mentioned he stayed to play VP after a session one day, and noticed the undercover agent inspecting the table (looking behind, under, etc). He thought it was odd, but reasoned they might have dropped an item and were looking for it.

Both the casino and gaming agents suspected cheating, but looked like idiots when attempting to "prove" it. Despite being barred, it was nice to see the agent's embarrassment and frustration when he went from "you're suspected of illegal activities" and reading my Miranda Rights to "go home, you'll most likely receive a letter indicating you're no longer welcome at this establishment."

About Blackjack: The Forum

BJTF is an advantage player site based on the principles of comity. That is, civil and considerate behavior for the mutual benefit of all involved. The goal of advantage play is the legal extraction of funds from gaming establishments by gaining a mathematic advantage and developing the skills required to use that advantage. To maximize our success, it is important to understand that we are all on the same side. Personal conflicts simply get in the way of our goals.
