    Restrictive Bankroll Trip to Vegas

Have a trip coming up, will have one or two nights by myself, so wanted to drive/walk around and get a little QT at the tables. I was wondering what some of your recommendations would be for a person planning a trip to Vegas, as far as casinos conducive for a current bankroll of around 7000 (total BR, not trip BR.)

I realize, for a reasonable ROR at that smallish BR, trying to find shoe games with reasonable rules will probably not be likely for me, except to backcount, so I've been planning accordingly.

I've done some research, have a few ideas of where to go: one or two places downtown and a lot of out-of-the-way places. However, wanted to consult the helpful experts on this site to get some timely recommendations...

Also, I realize, on second thought, it might be either poor etiquette or imprudent to ask this question, and my apologies if that's the case - I would be just as happy to hear about the places that may appear suitable, BR wise, but that I should avoid nonetheless.

What is the MAX bet you want to make?

Purchase this month's CBJN at wong's site. CBJN lists the rules, table mins, and pen which is a good place to start if you don't have time for your own scouting.

Once you review CBJN you'll figure out a car is a necessity.

Thank you, I had completely forgot about that resource.

Max bet is low. When I've played single deck I usually have spread 10 to 40, sometimes 5 to 40 for one final deck or two right before leaving. Double deck I've spread 5 to 40 but would do 10 to 80. The 6D games near me, I spread 1x$2 to two hands of $40, which I realize is too low of a min for Vegas without back counting.

I am aware that my return is expected to be lackluster - that's okay, as this is has been more of a fun venture for me than anything else and I treat the money Ive made or may lose more as a score board than cash. As I gain confidence over the coming year or so, i will consider adding more to my BR.

At your level, I would rent a car and focus on the off strip casinos, e.g., Stations, Boyd properties, etc. On the strip, your best opportunities would be during the weekdays during graveyard and day shifts.

I believe in keeping your same betting unit as long as you have enough to get through a shoe. You generally need 10 top bets for a 6 deck game and 5 top bets for a two deck game. If you don't have that lower your top bet but keep your same betting unit and lower your bottom bet accordingly to achieve the desired spread. If you run too short of chips you really have to choose between stopping play until you get a bankroll infusion or just backcount and bet 1/3 of your stack when you get a big enough edge and pray for luck.

In general, if on a short trip bankroll, keep your same betting unit (per 0.5% of advantage) but lower your top bet and bottom bet and hope for + variance off the top so you can move to your normal stakes.

Your OP was about where to play, but as far as the follow-up RoR discussion, you might become interested in the concept of the Renewable Bankroll Formula. Basically, if you dutifully keep adding to your bankroll, you can bet more aggressively than standard RoR calculations would recommend. The article is great, but perhaps requires a little too much false accuracy for a starting AP. Snyder's Blackbelt in Blackjack has surprisingly aggressive rule of thumb recommendations along the same lines, applicable to your upcoming trip.
