Penetration in CBJN too optimistic for LV?

    Hi all,

I refer to the Jan2015 issue of CBJN. I was scouting some games (low minimum DD tables). I found that the penetration was often much worse than written in CBJN. Example: The WildWildWest is said to have a DD with 0.5 decks cut off. Nice!. When I was there they were cutting off ~0.8 decks. Or the Downtown Grand DD: CBJN says 0.7 but on the weekend they were cutting off ~ 1 deck. El Cortez DD: CBJN says 0.5 decks, to me it seemed more like 0.7 decks.

Do you have the same impression? What's your take?

Another question for the experts: What are the hours of each shift? I asked a dealer, she said she was working from 12:00 - 20:00. Is that typical for all casinos in LV?

    Thanks!

    Fred

I'd imagine penetration varies not just by casino but also within a particular casino too. Perhaps the reporters took an average during a particular shift. At my local two stores I've seen it vary between 0.5-2.25 (6D). Thankfully it's around 1-1.25 most of the time.

That would be the day shift. So as a rule of thumb night : 8-4 and morning 4-12.

I have found the great pen is always under reported in the CBJN. Their scouts are often players or casino personnel. Players don't want APs descending on their honeypots and the suits don't want to invite APs to try to hit their vulnerable games or hit their not so vulnerable games for that matter. It just makes more work for them to police the added flow of APs. This is the first I have heard of too optimistic. I have seen mediocre pen reported that was worse than reported but that is about it. Many casinos vary pen by shift and crowding. All casinos pen varies at least a little by dealer. Most of the time it varies more than a little.

So, the pen was off by 10 cards on DD?

I mean, that can easily be explained by differences in shift, individual dealers, etc.
