When a player walk into a casino to play what model does the casino use to determine the house edge base on the way they play down to the last penny? I am mostly interested in how does the casino use the math to classify a player as AP.

They are doing something like this:

If you don't follow basic strategy perfectly, but make a few mistakes you're considered a "Medium or Normal Player" and they assume they have a 1% or so advantage against you. If you follow basic strategy they assume they have the standard published basic strategy expectation against you and you're considered a hard player. If you're terrible, you're considered a "soft" player and they may assume a 2% or higher advantage against you. As I recall, studies by casino consultant Bill Zender show the average player gives up an additional around 0.8% to the house over what the basic strategy expectation of the game is.
Interestingly enough, I had 1 Vegas dealer, whom I did not even recall, say something about me being a great player, and that I never lose. I was staying there at the time playing a very polite spread. Not as interesting, I got waxed that weekend - polite spread or not. I really wonder what that screen said about me. I've played there since, though unrated.
Somewhat true, though that being said, I've managed to get few peeks here and there are the screens at some local joints. One place in particular they have software for that just flat out ranks players 1-3 and doesn't offer much info. The other was the Blackjack Protec21 software or whatever its called, and luckily it had me down as a basic strategy type player and nothing more. It did, however, put a scare into me, knowing what I know about that software.
