    Today I turn Pro

    Hello there guys

I just wanted to share this important moment in my life. After several months planning and almost 4 years playing as an AP, I took the decision to become a Pro.

Today is my last day at my former job where of course I didn't burn any bridges, in fact we'll probably be doing things together on a free lance style and they are more than happy to have me back if the situation turns sour or conditions change.

I also want to thank some of the contributors in here:

    - Norm: Besides providing and keeping alive this amazing place to share information and knowledge, I´ve always thought you deserve your avatar: Certainly Ghandi would have the patience you need to endure trolls and all the aggravation taken Thanks a lot for that!

    - Tthree: Amazed not only by your math skills but also your patience to answer newbie questions and explain issues that seem obvious for most. Besides that, excellent knowledge and a skillful writer.

    - KJ: Your example living 11 years as a pro, plus your always entertaining and insigthful contributions to the forum really inspire. I am sorry you are going through a bad 1st half of the year, wishing the cards turn around for you.

    - DSchel: BJA3 is a pinnacle of excellent work, answers, insights and help from your lifetime's contribution to this game. Felt proud to show my anonymous support by buying it first time as the new edition came up.

    - Smallcapgrowth and Bjarg: Excellent talks, information sharing and most important, mutual respect as players.

    - BJfan: No longer posting much so far as I know, but your help and contribution has gone a long way, providing me the tools to figure all this out

Of course I'll keep you posted from time to time about my status in this new life!

You did the most important thing to make your dream come true: you didn't close the doors of your previous life. Good boy!

I can only fantasize about the adventures and misadventures you will face, but you are already a winner for having the courage to grab life and tell her what to do... instead of the contrary, which is much more usual.

The best of luck to you!

Congrats on your decision, goodboy. I always get a little nervous when I hear someone has made the decision to pursue blackjack as a career, especially if there is any indication that I may have contributed to that decision. But really I get nervous because many players may not really be prepared for what they are embarking on. You seem like you are prepared, with a number of years of APing parttime, you have some idea what to expect. Your post indicates a responsible attitude in not burning bridges, in having a backup plan and in your preparation. I truly wish you success and happiness.

Just out of personal curiosity, a few questions come to mind that you may want to answer, or may want to answer in private, or maybe not at all.

1.) What is your personal situation and responsibilities. (married, children, spousal income etc)
2.) What size BR and level of play are you considering?
3.) What are your income requirements and expectations?
4.) What area are you based out of?
5.) Are you planning on a lot of travel or hitting a home based rotation of stores?

With due respect I hope goodboy answers none if these question here..except the family question

i think I know more about his situation and if he decided never to play another hand of bj he would have had more success than 99.9 percent of people that attempt to card count...

pro was the right decision and I Garentee u there's a good chance he might be retired in another 4 years...good luck but I know ur already know ur gunna crush it...you are a very humble person..

No disrespect kj but this guy has achieved tons and tons of success already ...

Excellent, SCG. I am only going but what I am being told, I am not a mind reader.

    Anyway, continued success, Goodboy.

First of all I just edited my OP adding my acknowledgement to Don. Awful mistake on my behalf to let it slip on the original post.

I feel no problem in sharing some of the answers to the questions you mention. After all part of the reason for being in a Forum like this is sharing, within limits of course!!

    1) Single, no kids, no other family obligations, just a very committed gf who totally supports this BJ adventure, going to play with me and already mastered BS. Counting.... Different story for her non-mathematical mind.

    2) Currently a little bit over one million dollars. I play of course black, purple and above equivalents.

    3) Rather not to say, I am just aiming to generate 3 or 4 times in EV my current needs.

    4) Outside the US

    5) Not much travel fortunately. Just the ocassional one to spice things up, including rare visits to the US for leisure and gaming of course.

I also answer because I sense KJ's honest concerns with these questions, all with good intentios; while at the same time I understand smallcapgrowth's about my privacy.

    Congratulations my friend.
However, I think the title you chose for the thread is wrong.
Today you may have gone full time, but it's clear to me it's been a while since you've turned pro.
    Best of wishes to you.

KJ, assuming a BR of $50k and playing $25-$250, playing as you do (not easy because of your willingness to play some tough games), what can one expect to earn as a full time pro, playing say, 500+ hours a year? In your experience, aside from Las Vegas, where else might it be possible without major airline travel? Unlike Goodboy, most others considering full time play, are not with a million dollars a and ready for black/purple play.

If you have over one million dollars, just forget about AP blackjack, don't waste your life, just play for fun. You can do so many other profitable and time efficient things with that one million than grinding out a 2% edge LOL

ZeeBabar, I am not going to participate in hijacking this thread to answer a question that you have asked and has been answered numerous times between the two sites. I will send you a pm sometime over the next few days if you like sharing my thoughts on your situation.
