Question on SP21 CVBJ BS in demo software ver 5.6.179

I recently downloaded the demo version of CVBJ after having got a new computer, the old version wouldn't install, and was very pleasantly surprised to see it supported SP21. It's my favorite game by far.

However for the life of me I cannot get it to implement The Wiz's published BS for 17 v Ace in an S17 6D game. The play in question has an "Rh" meaning surrender on first 2 cards but hit any 3-or-more-card 17's. I have unchecked dealer hits soft 17 in the settings. The hard hit/stand tab has green for 17 vs Ace meaning to hit and the surrender tab has red meaning to surrender. Which, I guess, maybe seems OK.

Yet everytime I get a 3-or-more-card 17 it comes up with a strategy warning when I try to hit. If I choose "dealer makes obvious plays" it blows right on by and if I uncheck it I get the strategy warning.

I'm at the Bellagio casino if that matters.

    What am I missing?

Also, I guess one can no longer program's one's mouse buttons to display count etc like one used to in the old mouse/sounds tab?

Which playing strategy do you have selected?

Well, I go to "Strategies" then choose "Playing Strategy Simple" then expand Michael Shackleford and click on Spanish 21. Full indexes is checked in that window. Then I click OK. Or Display the taqbles. Warning on strategy error is also checked here.

The top of the screen where cards are dealt says "Bellagio Playing Strategy:Spanish 21 Betting Strategy: Simple."

All the other tabs in the strategies seem to agree with Shackleford's BS table except for the "Rh" for 17 vs Ace.

Looks OK to me. If you get another error, take a screen shot of the error.

    OK - I'll give it a shot.

Is there any way to tell what specific cards to deal out to save some time? I think I used to be able to do that in my old version but can't figure it out now.

The correct play with "surrender any number of cards" is to surrender, as warned. But, that is not a Spanish 21 rule and should be turned off, unless you found a dealer that accepts this.

Thanks Norm - I thought originally I did not have that checked and later changed it for other reasons. I'll keep an eye on it though.

But now I get the pop-up "Odd Play?! Are you sure you want to Hit?" with the 3-card 17 vs Ace. Which is OK I guess. Although I'd prefer that the proper play go through without it being questioned. Conversely, if I originally choose to stand, I do get a strategy warning that hit is the correct play. It seems weird to have the correct play questioned at all.

While on the subject of strategy warnings, it appears there are none for double-down rescue? In other words, if I stand when I should have surrendered after doubling with a 12-16 vs dlr 8-A it goes thru no problem. Likewise, if I click on the chips to execute a surrender, it also goes thru. Would either play not show up as an error in the log?

This option is designed to mimic a dealer. To turn it off, Menu-Options-Settings-Play Variations-Dealer points out stupid plays.

Hmm. I added simulation of this option to CVData, but probably haven't got 'round to adding the strategy to CVBJ.

CVBJ for practice and CVData for simulation.

Thanks - guess I thought "stupid plays" meant "wrong plays" but you're totally right - the dealer and everybody else at the table is always quick and self-righteous to point out what an idiot I am to hit that multi-card 17 vs Ace. One guy once even demanded the pit boss come over to the table and demanded I be kicked out of the casino because of my previous crazy (BS was all it was) play. Pit boss said no and the dealer hit me and I got my 4 for a 21 and he got up and left the table swearing lol.

That's OK with the double-down rescue. Maybe you'll include that in an update sometime. I actually did want to know if it was in CVData or not. Assume it and the 3-card 17 stuff can be implemented? I marvel how much the software has changed since my old 2.1 version, maybe updated to 4 something lol.

One more question. When I go to Strategies - playing strategy simple and uncheck Full Indexes and choose No Indexes with Michael Shacleford and Spanish21 chosen as strategy and then click on Display Tables the tables revert to normal BJ tables. Then when I continue to play from there all strategy warnings are based on BJ play. I would have maybe thought at least SP21 BS tables would still be used initially?

Are there any index tables from Katarina's book incorporated into CVBJ or CVData? Especially CVBJ. Or would I have to re-create them in CVBJ when No Indexes is checked?

I also don't like that the Blue text of "Two Basic Strategies are included... etc" in that screen do not change when Michael Shackleford and SP21 checked. It misled me for a while into thinking it applied to SP21.
