I was thinking of a company that uses wooden spools of cable wire that are 3 feet across. He suggested making the inner diameter of the spools smaller so they could fit 50% more cable on a spool. It was estimated his suggestion saved the company tens of millions by the first years end. He got a reward of $50K.
A dairy processing plant in my area got a suggestion that there wasn't anywhere good to eat near the plant and too much time was wasted commuting for lunch. Without changing the crappy cafeteria they could encourage people to eat lunch at the plant if the could have free milk , drinks produced at the plant and ice cream if they ate lunch at the plant. The brass said it was like getting more than an extra work day in every other week as it allowed for an extra half hour of work out of each shift 7 days a week. It cost the company practically nothing to offer the freshly produced dairy products for their employees enjoyment. Almost everyone gladly stayed for lunch at the plant. That employee got a small 5 figure bonus for boosting production capacity by over 7%.

I like places with really dumb crews. Clueless surveillance, clueless suits. Those places are my favorite.
