    Developing a New Blackjack Game

This may have already been covered elsewhere, apologies for thread duplication if so, but just wondering what the general outline or guideline to follow is if someone's developed & wants to try to promote a new blackjack variant game to the casino industry?

I know the odds of success are slim, and it can be very expensive, etc but let's just suppose ya want to try anyway, LOL -- What would be the best way to go about it?

If it's just a simple rule change, is a patent relevant? Or does this kind of thing fall under copyright/trademark alone?

Anyone interested in doing the actual house-edge calculations? Do we need an NDA to discuss it?

Also, has anyone here ever delved into this realm before, tried to develop & promote a game? How did it work out for you?

Check the Gambling with an Edge archives. A couple of the podcasts dealt with new game design.

Thx Marvin... I'll go check it out.

Just wondering if it'd be a good idea to actually say what the idea is here, for people to discuss, OR if that would cause a problem in the event it actually *does* need to be patented or something?

It's a very simple rule variation idea/tweak & otherwise just straight-up blackjack... I'd be interested in people's opinion on what the market reaction to it might be, but at the same time don't wanna "give it away" if it actually *is* a good idea, LOL

    Hmm...

You should at least file a provisional patent application. Designing the game is easy. To sell it in Nevada, you have to get the commission to approve it first. Ain't easy or quick. A casino isn't likely to pay any attention at all until there is an approval since they are bombarded with new game ideas. Then comes negotiation with a casino, and a test period.

Thanks for reply Norm... I actually do have some experience with the patent process (although, mostly dates back to late 1990's, sigh, I'm gettin' damn old ) and as I recall, a provisional is usually fairly inexpensive, maybe $1000 or so for simple starting search & a bit of legal draft help, to get it started?

If it doesn't pan out or gets shot down right away, project can be abandoned without much risk... hmm, maybe I will actually do this
