I was playing a place downtown last week, a notoriously "sweaty" place, lol, when something kind of odd happened. The guy at third base had drawn 4 card and seemed to be struggling adding up his hand, so the dealer helped him by announcing 16. The guy signaled hit took a card (I think an 8) and busted. As the dealer was picking up the cards, he said oh, you had 17, which he did. The guy was furious and wanted his money back. The pit lady said no. She said it was his responsibility to know what he had. Turns out the 8 would have busted the dealer, but instead he drew I think a 20 which beat my hand. I then complained, hoping they would call it a dead hand, but to no avail.
Now, I agree it is the responsibility of the player to know what he/she has, but any situation like this or even similar, they usually resolve it on a more player-friendly basis that this. Seemed like 'blondie' was just being a b**ch.
