I always sit down with a sign hung around my neck that says, "Warning! Senile Senior Citizen At Large!"

Start coughing and tell the ploppies, "must be my tuberculosis acting up again..."

Thank you everyone for the replies. It's good to see that I am not the only one who realizes that ploppies can significantly interfere with our ventures at the tables.
I unfortunately play at casinos where people can not move to other tables because there often aren't any to move to. Therefore, everybody has to put up with bad players. Being obnoxious only increases the frustration for everyone at the table. Nobody is ever frustrated enough to quit playing completely and go home.
I was sitting at a table recently where this one girl split 10's every single time she got a 20. It annoyed everybody at the table, but nobody left. Then, after she split for the 80th time, she received another 10 and was reaching her hand out to indicate that she wanted to split again, and spilled her beer all over almost everybody's cards! The worst part was, she didn't even apologize to anyone at the table. She just giggled like an idiot. Even THAT was not enough to make anybody leave. Fortunately, she did not do this on a high count or it would have been all I could do to stop my fury. I DID have to wait until they dried the table and cards enough to play my hand that was currently on the table. I could not retract my bet since I already had my beer soaked cards. So I think that trying to annoy people is not a good option for me. Even with practice, I could not learn how to be that annoying.
bigplayer is right on the money. They hurt you worse on positive shoes because we often wait a while for them, only to have them drained by people eating up the good ones. I prefer head-to-head any day.

Thank you to mofungoo, RollingStoned, and KJ for your tips on "defusing" the ploppies anger. Those things are pretty close to what I do, so it's good to see that I am likely taking the most appropriate course of action. To DM21, I too agree that making eye contact and saying something that basically means "back off" is a good last resort when you have tried other methods. It's a good way to say "you won't influence my play no matter how hard you try, so quit being a baby and back off."
