"Nobody goes there any more, it's too crowded" - Yogi Berra
If you figured the house edge correctly, you might be even or possibly slightly ahead when you factor in the slot club. But no amount of changing your bets will influence your edge. If you're playing for fun, bet whatever makes it fun. Just don't expect to continue making money consistently.
"One of these days in your travels, you are going to come across a guy with a nice brand new deck of cards, and this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the Jack of Spades jump out of the deck and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not take this bet, for if you do, as sure as you are standing there, you are going to end up with an ear full of cider."
I'm excited for your winning, like I would normally be excited for any tourist or ploppy that had a winning session/streak. Don't kid yourself. You are having good luck, or what we might call "positive variance". Varying your bet on the opening round based on the cards played, and outcomes prior to the shuffle won't give you any advantage. You really are just "gambling". You will run into some negative variance, and if you're betting at the $20-$25 level, get ready for a wild ride. If anything, you could make playing deviations based on the count, but with only one round dealt to one spot, and those restrictive doubling rules, it will be tough to make a profit. I would stick to the $2 bets to minimize the value of the swings, play lots of hours, just have fun and enjoy the comps. Good Luck!
"My good buddy, my daughter, and wife's sister will joining my wife and me on our next trip!"
bruceinga, you seem like a good person, and I think most people do wish you good luck, but that's what it will be if you win "LUCK". In addition to losing money, you're setting yourself up for embarrassment if you have given your buddy, daughter etc the impression that you can beat BJ playing like you do.
I think that would hurt you more than the loss of a couple hundred dollars. Just have fun and don't expect much until you have learned BS and counting.
bruceinga if your rules are correct than I actually have you playing with a player edge of +.04, but I'm not sure how the dealer stands on 6 card rule effects the odds. You should double check and make sure the dealer doesn't hit soft 17. If he stands on S17 then you do have an edge and go nuts before the casino figures out their mistake.
