    Reno table conditions

Just got back from 3 days in Reno, if anyone is interested in a report.

I hadn't been there in a LONG time. Generally, table conditions were very bad IMHO but I am NOT a high roller so I didn't go into the high limit pits. A HUGE number of tables are 6:5. 6 deck shoe games routinely cut off 2 decks at most places. They try to make up for the down time with ASMs but few of the dealers seem competent to operate them and they end up farting around and often take as much time as if they just hand-shuffled.

Only a few SD or DD games that pay 3:2 and those generally had poor pen or high heat factor.

Best DD games I found were at CalNeva and Atlantis with 75% pen. Atlantis even had a $3 minimum table which I did not see anywhere else. After 8pm on Friday and Sat, all tables went up to $10 or more.

Best 6 deck shoe games were at El Dorado and Atlantis with 5/6 pen. OK to DD on any 2 cards at these places, DAS OK, but no RSA and only 1 card on Ace split. No surrender... in fact, none of the dealers even knew what the hand signal for surrender was! An older Chinese guy who didn't speak much/any English was drawing a horizontal line behind his hard 16 vs. Dealer 10 and dealer kept saying, "I don't know what you want." I said, "He wants to surrender!" She said, "What?" I repeated and said, "That is the signal for surrender. Do you allow surrender?" She said, "OH! No, we don't do that!" I looked at the old guy and shook my head NO. So, I tried the hand signal on the other dealers and they either didn't know what to do or, more often, they would just HIT me. What a joke...

I drove around and visited almost every place and overall I wish I had stayed at Atlantis but I was staying downtown for spousal harmony reasons. Peppermill was decent pen., too. Food and rooms were expensive on weekend.

El Dorado had this bizarre 'burn' card procedure where the dealer turns over the 1st burn card and, whatever its value, she then burns that many MORE CARDS! So, if you get a 10 value card, she burns 11 DAMN CARDS! And, that happens a lot...

Most of the dealers were good but a couple were horrible with slow speed, chatty or even hiding hit cards from other players. One drunk player asked a dealer about card counters. The PB was there. They both thoroughly poo-pooed that idea as 'not possible.' This, while they're cutting off 2 decks from a 6 deck shoe and using an ASM to make up for it. I really wanted to say, "If you're not worried, why are you cutting off 2 decks and losing all that money screwing around with ASMs and down time?"

I would go back since we can drive there in under 1 day and the entertainment is good and some of the food was excellent, but would avoid weekends as VERY VERY BUSY (even hard to get any seat at any tables at night - probably due to Christmas/New Year crowds) and would have a car and be ready to drive around looking for decent conditions. If any specific questions I can answer, will be happy to reply.

I've seen this at baccarat before, but never on a blackjack table.
"One of these days in your travels, you are going to come across a guy with a nice brand new deck of cards, and this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the Jack of Spades jump out of the deck and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not take this bet, for if you do, as sure as you are standing there, you are going to end up with an ear full of cider."

they're pretty much the same everywhere rules-wise. penetration-wise, the best is the two tables at the s legacy. everywhere else is pretty dealer dependent.

Does any place in Reno handle black to purple action at a moderate spread?

I have seen that once at a small casino in vegas. They were cutting 2 1/2 decks already off of 6 decker and then burned like 10 cards! Then they called out checks play when i jumped my bet from $5 to maybe $20! Previously all i had seen was 3 burned cards at a few casinos.

I think you just didn't play at the right place in RENO. My suggestion for you next time you go to Reno is get a copy of Stanford Wong's Current Blackjack News. In there it shows you the blackjack gaming conditions. Did you go to the Silver Legacy Casino in downtown Reno? I haven't been there a long time. The last time I was there they offer 6 deck H17, DAS, RSA, Double down on two or more cards. In other words if you have a three card 11 they will let you double down on that as well. Blackjacks pays 3:2. The house edge using prefect basic strategy is -.32% which is a very good game.

Another very good casino to play at is Siena Casino. I remember the last time I was there they offer 1 deck H17, DOA 50% penetration. The house edge using prefect basic strategy is -.17 which is another good game to play. There are more casinos with good rules for single deck that I spotted with 50% penetration but I will not name them. I will let you do the scouting and find them yourself.

The only place in Reno area that you will find blackjack game that let you surrender is in Alamo Casino. In Alamo Casino they have 1 deck H17,LS, DOA, Six card Charlie making the house edge -0.034% using prefect basic strategy which one of the best in the Reno area.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the feedback!
I like the idea of SW CBN. I will check that next time.
I checked the web sites for table conditions before I left but found that the info was not reliable so I just went to every place I could get to and watched and made notes and played if it was decent.
Yes, I stayed at the SL but the 6 deck games were all cutting off 2 decks and using the ASM. The SD games were all 6:5 at SL.
Circus Circus was the same and a real zoo with noisy kids everywhere!
El Dorado was the only one of the three connected-Casinos that had a decent 6 deck shoe game (5/6 pen and OK rules) but they had that crazy burn card procedure that was really maddening as you watch the dealer burning 5-10 cards each time...
I did not check out the Siena. I plan to go back during the week and look again. I'm sure you're right that I missed a lot!

    Thanks again!

One more casino to take a look at Diamond Casino in Reno. The Diamond Casino offers 1 deck H17, Double down on tens and elevens and If dealer has BJ with 10 up, you push with twenty-one in any number of
cards. Making the house edge only -.27.
