The World Series of Blackjack is long gone, as is the Las Vegas Hilton and its large open tournaments. It is now the Las Vegas Hotel.

There are some regular events in the North East and Mid West USA that may be of interest to you as well as some in Ontario and Quebec (Canada). You can find them on the event calendar at blackjacktournaments.com. And, of course, there are lots of events in Vegas. Many are invitational, but if you get friendly with the right casino host, they will sometimes put you in in exchange for some promised amount of play.

The best tournaments are invite only to high rollers. They are not open to the uninvited . You may never even hear of them in the Blackjack tournanment crowd. I was at a $250K tournament at Foxwoods. I didn't play in it but was there with someone who played. You needed a half million dollar credit line at the casino to rate an invite.

For tips go to this website. Remember you are playing against the other players not the dealer. A win is when your chip stack grows relative to the top chip stacks at your table not whether you win or lose the hand. If it is a play against the field tournament rather than advancing by beating the others at your table strategy gets a little tougher. You don't know what you need to advance. When you play against your table late in the round you may have to make some really "bad" plays to give yourself the chance to move on. What makes a good play late in a round grabs the highest percentage of the chance that you will advance not the best BJ play. You may find yourself doubling hard 16 or 17 to get enough money on the table to have a chance. You may split fives to get a chance to get 3 or 4 bets out there when the 2 bets from doubling doesn't give you a chance to move on to the next round.
