I disagree.
MOST of the denizens of this great website,
lurkers not withstanding, altruism is absent.
With all due respect Mr.Flash, do you mean by 'altruism' that people don't tend to share valuable information about the game of BJ. Such as stores, specific rules of specific casinos etc? You made me curious. By the way this site is great I've learnt a lot from you guys. I could name a few players who have helped my game improving tremendously by your comments. Thanks for Norm, Freightman, Bigdaddy, Bigplayer, Zenmaster Flash, Moses and so on. You guys are stars.

I am brand new to the community of BJ and I was wondering if maybe I could find a mentor or someone to help steer me in the right direction. I have been studying for the past 2 months(when I have free time, I work two jobs) and have learned basic strat, running count, true count, and i'm perfecting deviations. I got all my information online so im not completely certain what is 100% accurate but after doing tons of searching I compiled what I believed to be correct. I am going with the Hi/low strat and now working on building my personal betting strategy based on tc and my base unit, I am also working on building a bankroll. Before I dare go into the casino and blow lots of money trying to perfect my game(I did that before my game was perfect and lost more than I won due to losing count a few times) I would really like some advice and maybe even someone who can help me along on this journey. I am very committed and don't care how much time it takes but I really want to make this happen, currently my plan is to continue to study and perfect my game, while building my bankroll, until the end of this year and start next year ready to play hopefully 100% ready to go.
I view blackjack as fun but also as an investment, I am not willing to return to the casino until I know i've done everything I can to prepare myself, I refuse to go in there gambling because this is an investment into my future and my future career.
The one time I tried to approach another AP, she was a Chinese lady. We ramped up in unison and both wonged out at the same time. Unfortunately she colored out before me and, by the time I was colored, she was gone.
Who wouldn't try to team up with an Asian female counter???
First of all, you are new here and new to counting. You may or not be a waste of time as far as mentoring.
As a newbie, you need to spend time reading what people are saying and maybe even pay for the full membership to this board and look at the content of the more technical areas, the ones you get access to when paying.
In the meantime, you need to drill and memorize. Then go out and apply your knowledge. Skills you need to work on are:
1. Basic strategy (sounds simple, but many ploppies feel they know it and don't)
2. Totaling hands by just looking at the cards and this at leat up to 5 cards (more is rare, but I've seen dealers use 10 cards to bust and 9 to make a 17).
3. Counting without losing the count and with the least amount of glances, eventually being able to add up all with a simple glance
4. Estimating the number of decks remaining and calculating TC accordingly
5. Betting strategy
6. Deviations
7. Bankroll management
8. Heat management
This is the order from most to least obvious, not the order you need to learn these skills.
You need to excel at all of the above. Any missed item or weakness is a leak. Any leak hurts your EV.
A lot of bad counters help keep the lights on.
Read, practice, play, log, repeat until dead.
Good luck.
Good post by OP...However, just a couple of points.... whatever you work out yourself has 1000 times more value than what you trade for. Also people value information differently. If you want to go it your own you can. The biggest problems I have encountered involves misinformation. Whether intentional or not it has cost me years.
