A profound statement and one I think would ring true for many - possibly not for those dedicated APers who make, or significantly subsidise, a living from it. For the amateurs and recreational players though, I think what can start out as an interesting distraction or hobby can become a bit of an obsession and take up valuable time that could be directed at other, more positive things such as family, friends, cultural pursuits, personal health, sports participation, education, personal development yada yada yada.

Generally, I don't think gambling is in anyway a positive endeavour, although if you pursue the AP angle there are definitely some benefits to be had from all of the study and skills you have to master. Saying that then, I'd be very surprised if it's been a complete waste of your time and energy? What do you think?

WRX, I've been reading you since Arnold's Fight Club days (and that was a long time ago...) During all those years you were often the voice of reason and always worth reading. And above all you freely gave of yourself with meaningful legal advice which was usually well appreciated. Sure, I'm gonna miss your valued input. But time moves on an in the end, moves all of us on. All the very best to you, well done, and I hope you do check in from time to time, just to clear your pm box. Regards, K.

Nice to see such a positive view on the more important things in life - well, I think they're more important than playing blackjack, but you may disagree.

Good luck with playing blackjack in your old age - out of interest, just how old are you?

It's a good idea to plan breaks: maybe 2 to 4 weeks off every 6 months. And upon returning, there's that period where the numbers aren't clear, and one had to give up on the advanced simulations, and learning the new games; but overall the breaks are healthy. And the site has many people retiring who make it back and back and resume posting. And of course maybe one truly quits all of this stuff: and moves onto something new.
But if the money has gone bad, and I'd be crushed with a bad run, then yeah, it might be time to move on.

About Blackjack: The Forum

BJTF is an advantage player site based on the principles of comity. That is, civil and considerate behavior for the mutual benefit of all involved. The goal of advantage play is the legal extraction of funds from gaming establishments by gaining a mathematic advantage and developing the skills required to use that advantage. To maximize our success, it is important to understand that we are all on the same side. Personal conflicts simply get in the way of our goals.
