A list of members to the pay site would be useful

Norm should have a list of members established to remain after the change. All these people keep giving lists of players who may not participate in the next generation of the forum. A more useful list would be those who will be in the forum after the change. A member list that would grow with subscribership. Everyone is saying I am leaving but I never said that. I gave my philosophy on monthly fees and said you would know my decision if I stopped posting. I commented it was a nominal fee and that was all I said. As people keep deciding to leave by who isn't going to be here isn't the more prudent bit of info when deciding who is still going to be here.

Well I dunno if Norm will want to build such a list, but we could just voluntarily post in this thread to make it anyway...

I've already said I paid in another post (asking about if anything needed to be updated afterwards, etc) so let me start the list off by saying again "I PAID"

There is a member list on this current site and every site I know of. I am not a big site surfer though.

I suggested this. Norm said it would be a "Clear violation of privacy." I did not see any privacy issues, and apparently neither do you, so it may have been because I was the one asking.

I actually think this is a good idea.

LOL. Yeah well I doubt it will happen, because I asked about it first and it was CLEARLY shot down as a moronic suggestion. I have the feeling if Tthree would have asked first, it would have been a good idea. Unfortunately, I asked first, which makes Tthree a moron by default.

I think it is a violation of a member's privacy--whether you or Tthree asked.

I agree with DBJT's idea. The member can volunteer that info here or in another thread.

IT WOULD BE A MISTAKE TO GIVE IN AND POST THE INFO.,,Really-- what is the problem for you AP's to spend this very small amount to give things a try? Support the site please. There is way too much drama for $30 some dollars for a year subscription.

Of course it is a violation of the member's privacy. That was Norm's ruling. The question is, would you think it was not a violation of privacy if Norm had ruled the other way?

I paid; it is a small fee for what I have gained from this site. I don't post that much but I read on most days that I am available. If there is a lack of postings due to the fee I will make a conscious effort to post more. I am glad that some of the herd is going to be thinned, I just hope it is the right ones.

We aren't even supposed to tip. Good players are leaving...not because of the fee, just completely coincidental so I have repeatedly read. What is the point in paying? A great part of this whole thing was that it was free. A whole bunch of people are going to only use the free area. I'll support the site, as long as everyone here supports my family. I do not have a collection of blackjack action figures at home that I would lay my life down for, like some people do. All I have are a Tthree and a Smallcapgrowth, but I am looking to trade them for a Mr. BJ75.

Take BJ21. The "member list" is voluntary. Basically, it is used to "reserve" a name so no one else can use the name since anyone there can post under a different name in every post (and often do), or sign on to their chat room with any name, even fake the name of another member, since there is no connection between the chat server and the forum server. That is, a casino spy could login to the chat room as another member. Not everyone there is in the list. I’m not, even though I have been a member since the start. I have been paying the extra fee and pay for the extra software to prevent this. This is above the certificate that I pay for to allow SSL access from casino WIFI. A claim was made on BJ21 that no one does this. We do this.

Unlike BJ21, we have, like all VB sites, a full member list that anyone can view. But, it does not tell you the privileges allowed each member. Privileges are largely governed by user groups. We have a large number of user groups. This includes groups like levels of moderators, access to private forums, access to Dan Gordon’s old sports forums, access to an archive of ancient chats run by Arnold that I may one day make public with his permission, access to a private forum with some notables from earlier days, etc. Altogether, there are 19 user groups, and there exist additional exemptions.

Obviously, anyone here can post that they are a subscriber. But, I am extremely, EXTREMELY, sensitive to privacy, even with fake names. I have been involved with computer security issues for over four decades and take this role seriously. I will NOT post the handles of subscribers to private forums.

Feel free to say you are a member.

About Blackjack: The Forum

BJTF is an advantage player site based on the principles of comity. That is, civil and considerate behavior for the mutual benefit of all involved. The goal of advantage play is the legal extraction of funds from gaming establishments by gaining a mathematic advantage and developing the skills required to use that advantage. To maximize our success, it is important to understand that we are all on the same side. Personal conflicts simply get in the way of our goals.
