    Blackjack Verite Mobile Drills Demo

Release of the mobile Blackjack drills app is scheduled for this month. We need to iron out device differences first. However, I have created a web demo that is now available for last minute input.

The app is designed to run on tablets/pads and smartphones, on Android and iOS, including the iPod Touch. (Other platforms like Windows Phone, WebOS, Blackberry will be considered if interest develops.) , The restriction is on screen size. The larger the better. The smallest supported is 480x320 (or 320x480). 960x640 on “retina” screens. The code is adaptive. That is, it determines the operating system, screen size and orientation and reconfigures itself. At least that’s the theory.

The demo is fully functional, except that it ignores the strategy setting and always uses FELT. This is due to a technical issue that I will resolve if the demo appears to be useful as a web alternative for practice. The demo isn’t as “cool” as the actual app as it is not touch screen and isn’t optimized for PC screen sizes. But, it will give you a very good sense of the functionality and structure. There is still time for last minute suggestions, criticisms, etc.

The demo can be run on Macs and Windows PCs. On Macs, simply use Safari. On PCs, you must use Chrome. Internet Explorer and FireFox will not work. Fortunately, Chrome is free and easy to install.

To use the demo, simply go to www.qfit.com/apps/bjd1 from Chrome or Safari. Screen help is available on every screen. The combined help can be found in a PDF document at www.qfit.com/apphelp/BJVD.pdf.

The main philosophy of this app, besides flexibility, is the maximization of screen space. Mobile devices have smaller screens. So, no space is wasted with useless graphics. As much room as possible is reserved for useful graphics. And, graphics are of realistic casino cards and discard trays. Please make suggestions quickly. All suggestions are welcome – even a name change. Not crazy about the name.

    Norm,

I'm new to this community, but am very excited to see these great tools coming to mobile. Will be such a great resource and virtually creating an opportunity to practice whenever.

I would be more than happy to test in beta options for windows phones.

    Thanks

When trying drills, I noticed when my mouse hovered over stand/hit (or other options) , the words would disappear. When the mouse moved off of the option, they would re-appear. Chrome, Win 7. I assume this is just a demo problem.

Thanks. I changed it so the words don't fade when you are actually making a decision. Try again. It will say Updating and restart after it has updated.

    That took care of it.

Looks pretty cool. Have you considered making a record keeping ap, a la poker income pro, specifically designed for card counting? What price can we expect for this product?

I have no idea about price. Suggestions welcome.

If you guys writes up the specs for a record keeping app, I'll put it together. That would be cheap.

I couldn't get the drills to launch on Safari (mac). Everything else worked.

Well, I have to buy a Mac anyhow in order to submit to their store. What happens when you try a drill?

I can push the button but nothing happens after that. It just stays on the same screen.

If there's interest and you guys write up the specs I'd be willing to do a native iOS only app. I've been thinking about doing it for a bit for my own use and just haven't gotten around to it yet. Partially because I'm not sure what I want to have in it. Trying to strike a balance between enough info to be useful and not too much that it becomes a hassle that I never do it.
