(I suppose this is a test of blackjack IQ, so i'll give it a whirl) One hand of 12 units and two hands of 9 units would have the same RoR, so your 1-12 single hand spread would have a similar RoR as a 1x1 to 2x9 spread. A spread of 1x1 to 2x6 would be the same as a single hand 1-8 spread which would not be enough to beat your game without wonging. If you consider going to 2x9 is "lowering your spread" then I suppose the answer to your question is yes, but going to 2x6 seems to narrow. Now, there may be other factors to consider, like whether you get more heat spreading to two hands and how that affects your longevity, so I'd be interested in what others would say.
